READBoxes at Tabb Middle School

Posted on: Friday, March 24, 2017

Library Media Specialist Nanci Diggs has brought READboxes to Tabb Middle School (TMS). A READbox is a crate of books specifically selected for a particular unit of study. The crate contains a mixture of nonfiction, fiction, graphic novels, novels in prose, and poetry. TMS teachers make a READbox request based on a unit of study and the crate remains in the classroom for the duration of the unit. The books are utilized for research in the classroom and provide silent reading material for students who want to learn more about lesson topics. Students can check out the book to take home. This is a reading across the curriculum tool that makes it easy to expand classroom lessons for curious students.

Bruton High School Parking Lot Project

Posted on: Friday, March 24, 2017

Spring seems to have been delayed this year, but BrutonHigh School's parking lot will soon be much greener thanks to the commitment of a few students. Last spring, students in Darleen Hart’s AP English Language and Composition class researched ways tochange an environment and then created a plan in which to implement that change. Tyler Sakimura, AbbieMengeand JaelaWatkins collaborated on a design that would improve the aesthetics atBrutonHigh School (BHS). They found that clean schools and campuses improve the academic achievement of students. This week, that project came to life with the planting of four trees, onefor each grade level at the school, in the student parking lot. Each grade will be responsible for caring for their designated tree.
