York County School Division Closed - January 17Posted on: Tuesday, January 16, 2018York County School Division staff have been closely monitoring the Winter Weather Advisory for tomorrow and consulting with local emergency officials. Multiple forecast models are predicting a high probability of snowfall in the morning hours on the peninsula, which may cause hazardous road conditions. These conditions are expected to continue throughout the day tomorrow, impacting both student arrival and dismissal times. Given the forecast models and the 3-hour time frame needed to safely transport all students home from school, all YCSD schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17, 2018, for all students and staff. Additionally, all activities and practices are canceled tomorrow. Essential personnel should report as directed by their supervisor. |
YCSD Science & Engineering FairPosted on: Friday, January 12, 2018Congratulations to the winners and participants of the annual York County Science & Engineering Fair, held last night at the Grafton School Complex. Approximately 300 students from across York County secondary schools presented guest judges with 216 projects to review. First, second, and third place winners are invited to apply to participate in the regional Tidewater Science Fair held at Old Dominion University in March. Professional scientists and engineers from throughout the community volunteered their time to evaluate our students’ work. Several sponsors also provide special awards which include a wireless printer, camera and gift certificates. |
YCSD School Schedule Revision & Exam Information UpdatePosted on: Wednesday, January 10, 2018All York County School Division schools and offices will open on time tomorrow, Thursday, January 11, 2018. This will be an "A" day for high schools and middle schools. The Science Fair will be held as scheduled at the Grafton School Complex tomorrow night. The York County School Division has made the following adjustments to the 2017-18 school calendar to address weather-related closings this month and to allow additional instruction prior to mid-term exams. Wednesday, January 24 through Friday, January 26 will be converted to full days for all students. Monday, January 29 through Wednesday, January 31 will be converted to early release days for all students. High school course exams will be administered beginning Friday, January 26. Additionally, Monday, February 19 will now be a regular school day for students and staff. |
York County School Division Closed - January 10Posted on: Tuesday, January 09, 2018All York County School Division schools will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10, 2018. All activities and practices are also canceled. 12-month staff should report on a 2-hour delay or use liberal leave. While we know this extended school closure can prove difficult for some families, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority in setting school schedules. The division's road assessment team members have traveled dozens of roads throughout the entire county and many continue to have icy conditions. Based on the forecasted overnight temperatures, road conditions are not expected to improve sufficiently to allow bus transportation tomorrow. |

Schools will dismiss as follows: 1:00 p.m. Dismissal: All high schools with the exception of York River Academy 1:45 p.m. Dismissal: All middle schools and YRA 2:30 p.m. Dismissal: All elementary schools Morning preschool will dismiss as scheduled, Afternoon preschool is canceled. All after-school and evening activities have also been canceled. Champions will unavailable at any schools this afternoon, January 3, due to staffing. If you child participates in the Champions program, please contact the school to let them know your child's afternoon transportation plans. |

Each year, we feature student artwork and musical performances in a special holiday video. This year, all elementary schools were invited to submit art featuring our theme “Merry and Bright.” Special thanks to the Yorktown Middle School Treble Choir and the elementary students for sharing their talents and holiday spirit with us. |
