TregoED Award

Posted on: Tuesday, November 20, 2018

The York County School Division and members of the division’s executive leadership team were recognized Monday with the prestigious Benjamin B. Tregoe Award for Strategic Leadership in Education for excellence in collaborative decision-making. The award recognizes school districts, individuals or teams that have achieved significant and enduring results using TregoED tools for collaborative problem solving and decision making. It is not based on the outcomes of the decisions themselves, but rather, the way the school system arrived at those outcomes. YCSD has used TregoED processes for a variety of topics in the last two years such as crafting an elementary rezoning proposal, identifying an instructional program for alternatively-placed students, and the development of a standards-based elementary report card. The TregoED framework ensures a trained, impartial facilitator leads discussion to assess complex issues, make decisions, solve problems, and implement change.

Students located the features in various nonfiction texts and performed the surgery. Students also wrote personal narratives about a time they had to go to the hospital or were sick. Lastly, students helped their number patients by taking xrays (drawing pictorial representations) and checking symptoms (identifying greater and less than numbers). All of the "surgeons" enjoyed an engaging and interactive day at BMES!
