YMS Student Recognized in Broadcom MASTERS Competition

Posted On: Wednesday, September 23, 2020

Please join #TeamYCSD in congratulating Michael Herath, a student at Yorktown Middle School. Michael was recently recognized as one of the top 300 competitors in the 10th annual Broadcom MASTERS competition, the nation’s premier science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competition for middle school students.

Approximately 3,500 students applied to the competition, and only four students in Virginia made the top 300 list this year. Each of the Top 300 MASTERS will receive a $125 award from DoD STEM. With this new prize, the Department of Defense continues its support of youth in STEM, working towards a more diverse pipeline of highly qualified STEM professionals in the future. Michael’s YMS science teacher, Tabatha Brownschidle, also received recognition through the program.

Congrats to both for demonstrating #LeadYCSD qualities!
