Report Cards

Report cards for the first nine weeks will be posted online in Aspen on Wednesday, November 18. This new date was established due to the network interruption that occurred at the end of the quarter as students were submitting work and teachers were finalizing grades. Paper copies of report cards will NOT be issued, though parents can print a copy from Aspen or contact their child’s school to request a copy.

Thanksgiving Week Schedule

With only two days of school scheduled for the week of November 23, the division has adjusted the cohort schedule for students attending school in person as part of the Hybrid Model. Cohort 1 will attend school on Monday (A day for middle and high school students) while Cohort 2 will attend school on Tuesday (B day for middle and high school students).

Impact Aid Forms

This is a reminder that parents must complete an Impact Aid form for each child enrolled in the division. The division typically receives approximately $8 million dollars in federal funding annually through completion of these forms. Please double check your Rycor account today to ensure you have completed this critical form, along with all other required YCSD forms. If you are unable to complete the forms online, you can contact your child’s school for assistance.

Return to School Update

While Governor Northam announced new restrictions this afternoon to help combat the spread of COVID-19, there has been no guidance suggesting that these new measures impact YCSD and our current learning models. On Monday night, Dr. Shandor and chief officers provided the School Board with updates on health metrics in our area and staffing status in the division. Dr. Tony Vladu, chief human resources officer, provided a review of state and federal laws governing employee’s legal rights in the pandemic as well as how the division is working to address staffing levels. Dr. Jim Carroll, chief operations officer, provided an update on health metrics, the division’s COVID-19 case dashboard, and notification protocols for positive cases.

The next update will be provided to the board at the monthly meeting on Monday, November 23. All meetings videos are posted on the division’s YouTube channel. Live streaming is also available during meetings.

Virtual Parent Workshops

The division has partnered with Martha Rouleau, a William & Mary lecturer, to offer “Mindfulness Tools for Learning and Working from Home” parent workshops in December. During these virtual workshops, multiple relaxation and family-oriented mindfulness strategies will be provided to enhance resilience while living, learning and working from the same place.

Parents are encouraged to register for one of the sessions in advance.

  • Tuesday, December 1 6:30-7:30 p.m. (Grades K-6)
  • Tuesday, December 8 6:30-7:30 p.m. (Grades 7-12)
