YCSD Remote Model Shift - Feb. 12, 2021Posted on: Thursday, February 11, 2021York County School Division staff have been closely monitoring the Winter Weather Advisory for tomorrow while also consulting with local emergency officials. Multiple forecast models are predicting a high probability of snowfall in Williamsburg and York County, along with the possibility of freezing rain, which could cause hazardous road conditions in the morning. After careful consideration, and in order to allow families time to develop plans, the division will shift all students to the Remote Learning Model tomorrow, Friday, February 12 - this includes the Virtual Academy. Students should log in to class for synchronous instruction in accordance with their school schedule tomorrow morning. Essential staff should report onsite as directed by their supervisor, while all other staff are authorized to telework. Weekend athletics schedules will be evaluated tomorrow. |
YCSD Schools Closed - Jan. 28, 2021Posted on: Wednesday, January 27, 2021All schools will be closed for students, including Virtual Academy, tomorrow, Thursday, January 28, 2021. YCSDigest - February 8, 2021Posted on: Monday, February 08, 2021Dr. Shandor and Dr. Carroll provided the School Board with an update on the work underway to bring remaining grade levels into the Hybrid Model. Last week, Governor Northam announced that all school divisions must have in-person learning options in place by March 15. He further stated this begins with the most vulnerable learners, who have been in the YCSD Hybrid Model since September 28, and includes plans for the eventual safe return of all students. Therefore, YCSD already meets the Governor’s expectations and our work to bring all grades into the Hybrid Model continues. |
YCSDigest - January 25, 2021Posted on: Monday, January 25, 2021The School Board received an update on the division’s Return to School plan, beginning with information on COVID-19 vaccination efforts. More than 600 YCSD employees have begun receiving and/or scheduling their vaccinations. This is an important step in our ongoing efforts to resume in-person instruction for all students enrolled in the Flexible Framework. While we do not have a definitive timeline for when all employees will have received both doses of the vaccine, we do know it takes up to 3-4 weeks after the second inoculation before the vaccine reaches optimal protection. |
YCSDigest - January 11, 2021Posted on: Monday, January 11, 2021Dr. Shandor and chief officers also provided an update on the division’s Return to School plan this evening. Since September 29, the division has gradually returned students to school in the Hybrid Model, maintaining safe operations even as case levels began to rise. This has established confidence in the effectiveness of the adopted mitigation strategies in our buildings as well as our staff and students’ adherence to those protocols. |
YCSDigest - January 6, 2021Posted on: Wednesday, January 06, 2021As you know, the division scheduled a temporary shift to remote learning for this week, just as we did the week after Thanksgiving, in order to assess the impact of COVID-19 on our school operations. Over Winter Break and this week, division staff have conducted extensive contact tracing, evaluated staffing availability at each school, and assessed our ability to resume in-person learning safely through implementation of our mitigation strategies. |
YCSDigest - December 14, 2020Posted on: Monday, December 14, 2020Last week, Governor Northam enacted new restrictions in Virginia to help stem the spread of COVID-19. In doing so, he stressed that the new Executive Order does not change anything for schools. He further acknowledged that school is the best place for students and pledged that state leaders will continue working with local leaders to provide information needed to make decisions at the local level. The York County School Division remains committed to providing in-person instruction for all students within the guidelines and realities of a global pandemic. Our decisions regarding in-person learning are based on several factors. |

YCSDigest - November 3, 2020Posted on: Tuesday, November 03, 2020Over the last few weeks, the York County School Division has implemented the first stages of our Return to School plan, which guides the work of moving from mandatory school closures in March to having students and staff back in their classrooms. This Thursday, November 5, students in grades 4 and 5 will begin the Hybrid model as scheduled. Next Monday, November 9, we will also welcome sixth grade students back to our middle schools.
