1:1 Device Program Reminder

The school division's 1:1 device program will only apply to students in grades 3-12, beginning with this school year. This decision supports the developmental needs of our preK-grade 2 students, which includes learning to use a pencil, practicing penmanship, and learning to read with authentic texts. Students in these grade levels will continue to use technology for practice, assessments, and more personalized learning experiences.

All families (including those with students in preschool-grade 2) must complete the Technology Usage form in Rycor (no division devices will be issued to a student without a completed form on file). Families who choose not to use a division-provided device should be prepared to provide their student(s) with a device for school and home use as needed for coursework.

Beginning with the 2022-23 school year, cell phones are not considered an acceptable personal device substitute for a division-provided device. As such, cell phones should not be used during instructional time, unless at the direction of the teacher.

2022-23 Student Handbook

Each year, the division updates the YCSD Student Handbook and Conduct Code. The handbook serves as a helpful resource for navigating the school year and includes information about school system practices, policies and services that support and enrich learning. We ask all students and families to review the handbook online at the start of the school year. If you need a print version, please contact the school’s main office.

Required Forms & Fees

Once you have reviewed the handbook, families must complete the required acknowledgement form along with other required forms. To save time and reduce paper waste, many forms are provided through the division’s secure forms and payment system, Rycor.

You can now log in (or create your account if you don’t have one yet), click on a student’s name and look for “New Items” at the bottom of the screen to complete the forms listed below.

  • YCSD Student Handbook Family Acknowledgement Form
  • Student/Parent Technology Usage Form
  • Military Recruiter Information Release Form (students in grades 11 & 12 only)
  • Family Life Education Removal Request (due November 7)

Beginning with the 2022-23 school year, the School Board approved eliminating most course-material fees. Schools may still have miscellaneous fees and dues associated with certain courses (e.g. AP/IB test fees, club dues, etc.). Additionally, athletic participation fees have been reduced at the middle and high school levels.

Food Services

Free meals program funded by the USDA as a pandemic relief measure do not exist for the 2022-23 school year. Families are encouraged to apply for free and reduced-price meals as early as possible, using the online application or a printable form.

Filling out the form not only ensures YCSD receives certain federal funding to support students’ education needs, more importantly it allows eligible students to receive waivers or discounts on the following:

  • School & Athletic fees
  • Internet Access
  • SAT, ACT and AP testing charges
  • College Application fees

Clear Bag Requirements

Ensuring the safety of students, staff, and guests is a top priority for the York County School Division. Beginning September 1, YCSD will implement additional safety procedures, including a clear bag requirement for all spectators attending events at division stadiums located at York High (Bailey Field) and Bruton High (The Pit).

Each spectator will be allowed to bring in the following:

  • 1 clear tote bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" OR a 1-gallon clear, resealable plastic bag
  • 1 small clutch purse for privacy (no larger than 5" x 7")

Exceptions to the Clear Bag requirement will be made for those with necessary medical items, and credentialed media with equipment bags, after proper inspection at designated areas.

Other items such as banners, blankets, seat cushions, umbrellas and wagons are subject to inspection. For additional information, visit the division website.
