All YCSD Schools and Offices To Reopen Monday, January 3

Posted On: Saturday, January 01, 2022

Dear YCSD Families and Staff,

I hope you have all had a restful and enjoyable Winter Break. On Monday, January 3, we will be returning to our classrooms as scheduled as we remain committed to our belief that students belong in school, in-person. As case levels rise across the country and Virginia due to the Omicron variant, maintaining safe learning environments for our staff and students will take a community effort.

Daily Health Screenings

Daily home health screenings are still expected for all students and staff prior to entering a school or office building. This includes a temperature check, review of symptoms, and an assessment of potential COVID-19 exposure.

Report COVID-19 Cases

Please notify the school if a student or employee has received a positive COVID-19 diagnosis or has been identified as a close contact of someone receiving a positive test result.

Stay Home When Sick

One of the most effective measures in reducing the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses is to reduce the potential for exposure. At this time, YCSD will continue to follow the isolation and quarantine guidelines in place prior to Winter Break, and will seek further guidance from our local health department before considering adopting the new CDC guidelines released over break. Additionally, individuals should remain home until fever free, without the aid of medication, for at least 24 hours.

Remain Prepared and Flexible

While we remain confident in the effectiveness of the division's mitigation strategies to reduce the potential for COVID-19 transmissions in our schools, community transmissions may still impact our operations. Students and staff should have their devices with them daily to be ready for any possible shift to virtual learning - for individual students, classrooms, schools, or the entire division.

Families are encouraged to have plans in place to support at-home learning for their children, should it become necessary. Additionally, as we continue to face staffing shortages in our transportation department, we encourage you to have alternate plans for transportation to and from school. Every effort will be made to communicate transportation issues as far in advance as possible.

Thank you for your continued support as we prepare for the first day of school in 2022.

Sincerely,

Victor D. Shandor, Ed.D.
