THS Key Club Sponsors Sweet SuccessPosted on: Friday, February 14, 2014The Tabb High School (THS) Key Club, sponsored by Mr. Michael Martinez, organized a cookie contest designed to collect homemade cookies for our troops. Classes were encouraged to bring in as many cookies as possible in support of the Airman-Soldier Cookie Drive. Mr. Chris Elliot's French class won the contest by providing 37 dozen cookies for the cause. Cookies were collected by the Key Club and presented to the LAFB Ladies Club, the sponsors of the cookie drive, to be forwarded to the troops. |
Winter Wonderland Arrives at Bethel ManorPosted on: Friday, February 14, 2014The Bethel Manor Elementary School (BMES) PTA brought a Winter Wonderland to their students on Friday, February 7. Students formally invited their parents to attend an evening of music, dancing, refreshments and fun. BMES families created warm memories and lifelong friendships in the midst of another cold night! A great time was had by all! |
Youth Career ExpoPosted on: Friday, February 14, 2014Tabb High School (THS) Career and Technical Education students attended the Regional Youth Career Expo held on Monday, February 10, at the Hampton Convention Center. Students participated in mock interviews, attended workshops and visited the event floor to meet perspective employers and investigate career and educational opportunities. Students also had the chance to take a "test drive" on the USCG exhibit and try on firefighting gear. |
2013-2014 Calendar UpdatePosted on: Friday, February 07, 2014The York County School Division has made additional adjustments to the 2013-2014 school calendar to make up instructional time lost due to the weather-related school closings that have occurred this school year. Monday, April 21 will now be a scheduled student day. This is in addition to the previously announced makeup day scheduled for Monday, February 17. The following early dismissal days will now also be changed to full days with dismissal at the regularly scheduled dismissal times: Friday, February 28; Friday, April 4; Friday, May 9. These additional changes to the school calendar are necessary to ensure that all schools meet state requirements. Report cards that would have been issued on February 6 will now be issued on Thursday, February 13. |
Capital ConferencePosted on: Friday, February 07, 2014York County School Board members Mark Medford, Barbara Haywood and Cindy Kirschke, joined by Division Superintendent Dr. Eric Williams, attended the Virginia School Boards Association’s Capital Conference on January 27 and 28 in Richmond. The event brought together school board members, superintendents, state delegates and senators, Virginia Board of Education members, and others to consider the major educational issues facing the 2014 General Assembly. Attendees heard from Virginia Secretary of Education Anne Holton, and received information on a variety of topics, including the ever-changing political scene in Virginia, state budget issues, and legislation being considered that will have an impact on public education and school board operations. |

YCSD Superintendent Models Best PracticesPosted on: Friday, February 07, 2014Eric Williams, Ed.D., Division Superintendent for the York County School Division (YCSD), was recently featured in an article by THE Journal, a magazine dedicated to education technology. The article focused on five best practices shared by superintendents who belong to Digital Promise’s League of Innovative Schools. The League of Innovative Schools is an association of superintendents, hand-selected by Digital Promise twice a year. There are currently about 40 members, who were chosen based on their vision for their district, the challenges they've faced, the initiatives they've implemented, and how they demonstrate their willingness to share their experiences and learn from their peers. |
TMS Student Athletes VolunteeringPosted on: Friday, February 07, 2014Each Tabb Middle School (TMS) athletic team was tasked with completing a community service project together this year. In January, members of the boys basketball team took part in a Youth Volunteer Corps event to help feed those in need at the Five Loaves Ministry Project. |

School Schedule UpdatePosted on: Thursday, January 30, 2014The York County School Division will be closed for students, 10-month and 11-month employees tomorrow, Friday, January 31, 2014 due to continuing hazardous road conditions in residential areas. 12-month employees report 2 hours late, tomorrow, Friday, January 31, 2014 or use liberal leave. Schools will reopen to students on Monday, February 3, 2014. As we have announced previously, the last two high school course exams will be given to students when schools reopen. All schools will operate on a full day schedule both Monday and Tuesday with high schools giving the 4A exam on Monday, February 3 and the 4B exam on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. Schools will provide parents and students with information on exam and bell schedules for Monday and Tuesday, as well as information regarding second q |
