SES Student Becomes YCSD’s First Future Chef Competition Winner

Posted On: Friday, March 21, 2014

Ten finalists representing each of the York County School Division’s (YCSD) elementary schools competed in the Sodexo Future Chefs Culinary Competition on March 20. This was the first round of a national competition involving school systems from across the country. The primary goal of the contest is to get kids thinking about healthy eating by creating healthy recipes.

The YCSD finalists’ recipes were chosen from among more than 100 entries. The finalists were then invited to create their sandwiches for a panel of judges to taste and score. Hungry spectators got to sample all the entries as well — a deliciously challenging and fulfilling job! Congratulations to all the contestants and to the three medal winners:

  • Gold medal – Himagowri Prasad, Seaford Elementary School (SES)
  • Silver medal – Julia Shrieves, Waller Mill Elementary School (WMES)
  • Bronze medal – Alicia Santos, Dare Elementary School (DES)

Prasad’s recipe will now be entered into a regional competition with a chance to move forward to the national Sodexo competition.
