EXTEND Students Explore Urban DevelopmentPosted on: Friday, December 19, 2014EXTEND students at all York County middle schools have been thinking as urban developers. Their goal is to determine how to adapt the current architecture and infrastructure of York County to meet the changing needs of our community. Students have looked at population cohort charts and land-use maps of the county, explored what other communities are doing to conserve natural resources and meet the needs of their current population, and come up with concepts to meet the needs of the predicted York County population in 2040. They began with a mental concept, turned it into a two-dimensional sketch, then a three dimensional model, and — ultimately — a written structure rationale. Lastly, students presented their projects to parents and staff. |
