Essential personnel will be notified by supervisors regarding work schedules. We will continue to monitor forecasts and conditions, as well as consult with local emergency services, in regards to decisions for Friday and the weekend. York County School Division Early Release - January 3Posted on: Wednesday, January 03, 2018The division will be implementing early dismissals for all schools today due to the potential for hazardous road conditions later this afternoon and evening. Schools will dismiss as follows: 1:00 p.m. Dismissal: All high schools with the exception of York River Academy 1:45 p.m. Dismissal: All middle schools and YRA 2:30 p.m. Dismissal: All elementary schools Morning preschool will dismiss as scheduled, Afternoon preschool is canceled. All after-school and evening activities have also been canceled. Champions will unavailable at any schools this afternoon, January 3, due to staffing. If you child participates in the Champions program, please contact the school to let them know your child's afternoon transportation plans. |

Each year, we feature student artwork and musical performances in a special holiday video. This year, all elementary schools were invited to submit art featuring our theme “Merry and Bright.” Special thanks to the Yorktown Middle School Treble Choir and the elementary students for sharing their talents and holiday spirit with us. |
Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Recognizes Student-AthletesPosted on: Tuesday, December 05, 2017This weekend, the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame recognized the state’s outstanding student-athletes for excellence and dedication on the field to their sports and off the field to their communities. The high school students honored at the event were selected through an open nomination process. Three of the 16 honorees from across the state represented York County high schools - Grace Hoepfner (GHS), Margaret Tulloss (THS), and Alexis Morales (THS). Grace was also named student athlete of the Year at the event! Congratulations to these outstanding student-athletes! |
Tabb Middle School FIRST Lego League TeamPosted on: Thursday, November 30, 2017Tabb Middle School's FIRST Lego League team advanced to the state competition in December. 11 students in grades 6, 7 and 8 worked after school and Saturdays throughout the first quarter of the school year to engineer a Lego Robot. The robot must perform challenge missions presented to them through the FIRST Lego League competition. Additionally, they identified a problem related to the human water cycle, and designed and shared a solution for harvesting rainwater. In addition to this competition aspects, team members are part of a larger robotics club at Tabb Middle and will help teach other students how to build and program Lego robots in the spring. |

Grafton High School Students Selected to VMEA Honors ChoirPosted on: Tuesday, October 17, 2017Three Grafton High School students were recently selected to represent the school at the prestigious VMEA Honors Choir event, which held auditions this weekend. More than 700 students from across Virginia auditioned for 100 spots. This is the highest achievement that a choral singer can receive during their high school years. Congratulations to Rachel Olson (Soprano II), Brandon Chu (Bass II), and Sarah Petko (Alto II)! |

2018 National Merit Scholarship SemifinalistsPosted on: Thursday, September 14, 2017We are pleased to share that three students have been selected as 2018 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. The program is based upon student performance on the PSAT taken during a student’s junior year. Congratulations to Grafton High's Annie Cao and Rachel Olson as well as Tabb High's Jenny Gu. Approximately 1.6 million students, in more than 22,000 high schools around the country, entered the program by taking the 2016 PSAT. Of those, approximately 16,000 students were named semifinalists and can compete for National Merit Scholarships that together are worth more than $33 million and will be awarded next spring. |
