The Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact for Military Children recently announced Purple Star designations for the 2023-24 award year, adding two York County School Division (YCSD) high schools to the list this year.


DoDEA Grant Award

The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Military-Connected Local Educational Agencies for Academic and Support Programs (MCASP) has awarded a $2 million grant to YCSD to support an Environmental and Maritime Science Career Pathways program.


YCSD Earns High Marks

The York County School Division is proud to announce its achievement as one of the top three school divisions in Virginia, and the top division in Hampton Roads. These rankings are according to Niche, a leading and prominent school ranking and review website. As noted during a presentation on per pupil expenses during Monday’s School Board Work Session, the two school divisions (Falls Church City and Arlington) ranked higher than YCSD spend approximately twice as much per pupil as YCSD annually.

YCSD Two-Hour Early Release - Sept. 22, 2023

After reviewing recent Tropical Storm Ophelia updates, it is anticipated that today’s predicted weather conditions will directly affect afternoon bus routes. In response, the York County School Division will implement a two hour early release schedule today, Friday, September 22.


YCSD After-School Activities Canceled - Sept. 22-24

The York County School Division is canceling all after-school activities for Friday, September 22, and all school-related events and activities are canceled for Saturday and Sunday, September 23 and 24. Childcare programs operating on school campuses will communicate any scheduling changes for Friday afternoon.

Parent/Student Driver Education Presentation - 2023-24

Students enrolled in Driver Education in Virginia are required to attend a 90-minute presentation to obtain their Driver Education Certificate of Completion (DEC-1) card. This is due to a 2022 Virginia General Assembly code requiring all approved public, private, and commercial driver training schools to add a 90-minute parent/student component to the classroom driver education curriculum.


YCSD Surpasses State Averages in State Assessments

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) published annual state assessment results, accreditation ratings, chronic absenteeism data, On-Time Graduation rates, and other data from the 2022-23 school year on September 7. Overall, students in the York County School Division (YCSD) surpassed state averages in all five Standards of Learning (SOL) content areas by between 12 and 17 percentage points.
