This week's nor-easter served as a timely reminder that schools may need to close for a variety of reasons. In all situations, student and staff safety is our top priority. We recognize changes to school schedules not only impact families and staff, but they also affect student learning.
This year, the division has updated its plans to support student learning when schools close. Depending on the situation, students may take part in live (synchronous) or independent (asynchronous) learning. If the decision is made to implement remote learning during a future closure, families can expect the following to take place:
Families are encouraged to review the Student Learning During Emergency Closures webpage to prepare for future weather events.

The School Board is seeking your input to help guide the selection of the division's next superintendent. Families, staff, and community members are encouraged to complete the Superintendent Search Survey, available on the division website through October 31.
The board will also hold a public hearing on October 27 at 7 p.m. in York Hall to receive comments. Your feedback will help shape the leadership that guides our schools and supports student success.

The York County School Division receives more than $8 million in Impact Aid funding each year. This funding program, based on the number of federally connected students enrolled in our schools, support programs and services for all students.
To receive Impact Aids funds, we are required to survey families annually. Every response helps YCSD secure the full amount of federal funding available. Please take a moment to fill out the short form through SchoolCash Online if you have not yet done so.
YCSD's commitment to serve our community with excellence continues to be recognized, at the local, state and national levels.
Niche named YCSD the #1 Best School District in Virginia in its most recent rankings, and the top division in Hampton Roads for the third year running. Nationally, we rank in the top 2% of public school systems.
U.S. News & World Report ranks Tabb High School and Grafton High School among the top 30 in Virginia, with all five YCSD high schools recognized for strong graduation rates and college readiness.
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has once again recognized YCSD as a Purple Star School Division for the safe, welcoming and supportive environment we provide for military-connected students and their families. We’re proud to be among the few divisions in Virginia where every school actively upholds the Purple Star designation.
Each month, YCSD shares information from local organizations regarding educational/enrichment activities, events and opportunities for students and families. While the division neither sponsors nor endorses the announcements, they are offered as a community service for our families. Community announcements can also be found on the division website and each school's website.
