Title:   ONLINE LEARNING SPECIALIST

Position Type: Exempt

Primary Function:

To assist instructional staff in translating curriculum goals and objectives into meaningful and effective learning experiences for each student and to provide instructional leadership and support for the online learning programs of the school division.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a valid Virginia Teaching License and shall have completed those courses at the graduate level that are pertinent to the assignment; 3 years experience as a teacher and/or administrator; abilities and skills, as evidenced in the following performance responsibilities. Administrative endorsement preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of computer and educational technology including hardware and software
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of learning management systems and online learning strategies
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite especially Word, Excel and Access
  • Knowledge of Adult Learning Theory and its implications for training
  • Possess professional and personal characteristics for working effectively with students, school personnel and members of the community
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, ability to plan, organize, and facilitate professional development
  • Ability to analyze data and produce reports

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Manage virtual learning programs to include Summer Academy,
  • Develop training materials for virtual students and facilitate orientation sessions
  • Deliver professional development to teachers on effective instructional strategies in online learning environments
  • Develop online curricula aligned to Virginia Standards of Learning
  • Collaborate with and oversee online teachers to include co-teaching of students
  • Analyze student achievement data
  • Create and maintain student and teacher user accounts in the learning management system
  • Assist in the management of professional development online courses with the Coordinator of Online Learning, Coordinator of Licensed Professional Development and Instructional Specialists to include the creation and maintenance of user accounts for staff
  • Develop training materials for online professional development and facilitate orientation sessions
  • Oversee enrollment process for certain online courses and related data-collection tasks
  • Collect and analyze virtual learning data to determine program effectiveness
  • Provide technical support to virtual learning students and staff beyond the scope of the Department of Information Technology and the Help Desk
  • Maintain virtual learning website
  • Develop virtual learning marketing materials – brochures, news articles, etc.
  • Engage in research related to online learning
  • Participate in department activities
  • Support Director of Academic Services and Educational Technology in the area of educational technology
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Reports to:
Director of Academic Services and Educational Technology
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of administrative personnel.
