Title:   RESOURCE & SECURITY TECHNICIAN

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Assist in maintaining the security in the school division buildings and ensuring the proper operation of the school division's building automation system through the use of comprehensive software packages.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of high school and some technical school training or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the acceptable knowledge, abilities and skills, as evidenced in the following performance responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with personal computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet software, and database management
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Fluent in the English language including grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Some experience and knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the mechanical and building automation industry.
  • Some knowledge of codes, occupational hazards and safety precautions in the electrical and mechanical fields.
  • Ability to operate independently and without constant supervision, as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain an effective, professional, working relationships with IS employees, and other departments.
  • Ability to establish, maintain and prepare technical reports and documentation; and the ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to use various types of testing equipment including digital multi-meters.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, and reach.
  • Ability to grasp, hold, and manipulate tools and parts.
  • Ability to work in tiring and uncomfortable positions from ladders and scaffolds, etc.
  • Possess a valid Virginia driver’s license
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Establishes security codes, modifies existing security codes and verifies the proper operation of the installed building security systems through the use of software compatible with the current security system.
  • Creates reports from the records of building security activity when required.
  • Investigates building alarm system malfunctions when necessary and contacts the security company when problems cannot be resolved through the installed computer software.
  • Creates work orders for fire, security and closed circuit television (CCTV) problems. Notifies security contractor via telephone and fax.
  • Tracks progress by security contractor for resolution of problems/alarms/system failures. Reviews billing by contractors to confirm accuracy and prevent overpayment.
  • Daily monitors the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment in school division buildings for proper operation through the use of building automation graphics software. Notifies the Maintenance Department of abnormal trends.
  • Generates work orders for problems noted while monitoring the HVAC equipment installed in the division buildings via the building automation system for the energy management and HVAC personnel.
  • Verifies alarms generated by the building automation system and notifies the appropriate personnel.
  • Creates graphical displays of division buildings and enhances the graphics packaged supplied by contractors through the use of current building automation software.
  • Create building automation system work orders and record information on them including labor, travel, parts and cost.
  • Assist the Building Automation System Technician in the installation of wiring, conduit, controls and sensors associated with the building automation system.
  • Assist the Building Automation System Technician in the troubleshooting and repairing of the installed building automation system equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Supervisor of Resource and Security Control
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations for evaluation of non-licensed personnel
