Title: TRADESMAN - HVAC TECHNICIAN - ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL

Primary Function:
Under limited supervision perform a variety of repairs and maintenance checks on all HVAC equipment and service all kitchen equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.

Virginia HVAC Journeyman license.

Type I, Type II, and Universal Refrigerant Certifications.

Four years accredited HVAC apprenticeship or equivalent.

Ability to work alone or as a member of a crew in either a shop situation or at a work site.

Knowledge of standard practices, tools, and terminology of the skilled trade of HVAC.

Ability and understanding to work with up to 480- volts electricity and three phase systems.

Knowledge and understanding in energy management and the ability to monitor and change set points in an energy management system using necessary test equipment.

Knowledge and understanding of building codes, shop and machine safety, EPA, and OSHA requirements as required by the trade.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.

Ability to use refrigeration gauges, vacuum pumps, analyzers, oxy-acetylene torch sets, multimeters, and other standard equipment required for servicing HVAC equipment.

Ability to meet the public effectively.

Ability to effectively work in a crew and maintain good working relations with the crew and others.

Dependability with good judgment.

Ability to work outside in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions.

Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting,

stooping, bending, working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and from

ladders, scaffolds, etc.

Must have current Virginia Driver’s License.

Ability and knowledge to effectively use computer.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Perform a full range of journeyman level tasks including installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC, refrigeration, and appliances.

Coordinate and assist in installation of HVAC equipment and ductwork.

Maintain refrigeration and HVAC equipment to reduce possible down-time and maintain best possible efficiency in calibration of pneumatic, electronic and 24V control systems; perform operational checks of refrigerant systems, compressors and expansion devices; and perform oil sampling of refrigeration systems to detect acid and moisture contamination.

Troubleshoot, isolate problems, and make repairs so they do not reoccur and cause further down time or compressor replacement in refrigeration, bearing and motor, and control system areas.

Maintain all kitchen equipment in safe operating condition including cleaning condensing coils, replacing worn wires and grounds, replacing gaskets, and cleaning ice machines.

Troubleshoot and repair all kitchen equipment including: refrigeration and appliances, ice machines, compressor and motor replacement, heating element replacement, and wiring repairs.

Plan work in accordance with drawings, sketches, or blueprints and own knowledge of construction.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Building Maintenance.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Can climb a ladder and lift up to 60 pounds from the ground and 35 pounds above the head.
- Can stand for extended periods of time
- Can understand and follow written and verbal instruction
- Exhibits the manual dexterity and mental alertness needed to operate tool and/or other equipment
In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the School Division may suspend normal operations and/or cancel classes. If this occurs, all employees deemed essential must remain at or report to their work as soon as conditions reasonably permit. The designation of essential depends on an employee’s duties as well as the circumstances for suspension of normal operations.

Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
