Title: SENIOR COMPUTER SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Primary Function:
Provides technical guidance and leadership to computer support personnel as they troubleshoot problems on computer systems and associated peripherals, and installs inter and intra departmental multi-user networks. Assists Supervisor of Computer Maintenance with the supervision of Interns, provides mentorship to Interns, and performs evaluations of assigned Interns. Assumes responsibilities and duties of the Supervisor of Computer Maintenance in the absence of the Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree in computer science, electronics, or related technical field, or a technical study program from a trade school or previous employer (such as military), A+ Certification, and two to three years hands-on technical experience diagnosing and resolving computer hardware and software problems, installing and maintaining personal computers and peripherals; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the acceptable knowledge, abilities and skills, as evidenced in the following performance responsibilities.
Necessary and Special Qualifications:
- Valid Virginia drivers license and insurability required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of the installation and routine maintenance procedures for personal computers and related equipment.

Experience installing client workstations in a LAN/WAN network environment to include: installation/configuration of TCP/IP settings, e-mail client software, network drive mappings, Internet browsers in an environment with a firewall and proxy servers, and network printers.

Experience dealing directly with customers.

Experience mentoring daily work activities of others.

Experience in training personnel on technically oriented tasks.

Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with IS administration, employees, other departments, and customers.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to prepare technical reports, memorandum, and documentation from raw data.

Ability to stay abreast of and analyze advancements and trends in the microcomputer industry and make recommendations for changes and improvements to systems and/or programs when advisable.

Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, and reach when working with personal computer equipment, peripherals, and associated electronic network equipment and to lift fifty (50) pounds unassisted.

Ability to grasp, hold, and manipulate tools and computer parts.

Ability to climb a ladder while carrying twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.

Visual acuity and perception required for operating a motor vehicle and working with computer hardware and software.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Serves as project manager/team leader on assigned projects.

Assumes sole responsibility for support of assigned enterprise wide applications and systems.

Serves as mentor to Computer Support staff on aspects of the division’s technology architecture.

Serves as supervisor and mentor to train and oversee assigned Interns, schedules Intern work assignments and performs evaluations of their work.

Assumes responsibilities and duties of the Supervisor of Computer Maintenance in the absence of the Supervisor.

Assists in planning for both new and replacement equipment and software purchases.

Initiates purchase of replacement equipment when hardware repair is not possible.

Determines the nature of problems (i.e. hardware, software, network, or user).

Diagnoses hardware problems to the component level and initiate repair.

Delivers or arranges for pickup and delivery of hardware equipment to appropriate repair vendor when on-site repair is not possible.

Initiates appropriate corrective action for software problems, or refers problem to appropriate personnel.

Effectively communicates user errors and explains steps to avoid similar problems in the future.

Assures all installations are in accordance with manufacturer's specifications, and YCSD guidelines.

Installs microcomputers, networks, and associated peripheral equipment and ensures proper set-up.

Installs operating system and application software and associated upgrades.

Installs client workstations in a LAN/WAN network environment to include: installation/configuration of TCP/IP settings, e-mail client software, network drive mappings, Internet browsers in an environment with a firewall and proxy servers, and network printers.

Ensures delivered equipment meets specifications as ordered.

Disassembles systems and networks and relocates as required.

Provides demonstrations and hands-on training on computer related topics to students, faculty, and administrative staff as required.

Performs preventive maintenance as needed (including the advising of and training of on-site personnel in proper maintenance procedures).

Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Supervisor of Computer Maintenance
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
