Title: ROOFER - ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL

Primary Function:
Conducts roof inspections and surveys on all structures in the School Division and performs the necessary repairs to existing metal, elastomeric substrate (hypolon and Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer), asphalt shingle, tar and gravel roof systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent, and at least three years training and experience in roofing to include metal, EPDM, and asphalt shingle, tar and gravel roof coverings; must possess a valid Diver’s License issued by the DMV of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of standard materials, practices, applications, codes compliance, tools and terminology of the roofing trade.
- Working knowledge of repair products and materials for all roofing systems in the Division.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both a verbal and written fashion.
- Ability to understand and put into practical use all written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to read and understand blue prints, schematics, plans and structural drawings.
- Ability to work effectively with his/her supervisor and peers.
- Exhibits dependability and sound judgment in decision making and all business conduct.
- Ability to work in all types of inclement weather and in extreme temperatures.
- Must be in good physical condition and possess the strength and manual dexterity to
- Perform all tasks, including climbing, lifting, stooping, bending and working in tiring and often uncomfortable positions from ladders, lifts and scaffolding.
- Ability to research records and understand warranty data.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Works closely with Roofing Technician in tasks which include: inspections, installations, repairs and routine maintenance.
- When necessary, works with other tradesmen in tasks directly related to roofing and in those unrelated to the trade.
- Performs and documents roofing surveys and reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Can climb a ladder and lift up to 60 pounds from the ground and 35 pounds above the head.
- Can stand for extended periods of time
- Can understand and follow written and verbal instruction
- Exhibits the manual dexterity and mental alertness needed to operate tool and/or other equipment
In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the School Division may suspend normal operations and/or cancel classes. If this occurs, all employees deemed essential must remain at or report to their work as soon as conditions reasonably permit. The designation of essential depends on an employee’s duties as well as the circumstances for suspension of normal operations.

Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations for non-licensed personnel.
