Title: PRINCIPAL - YORK RIVER ACADEMY

Primary Function:
Responsible for all elements in the development and operation of the Division’s charter school, Virtual High School, and alternative education programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Holds a postgraduate professional license in school administration and shall have completed those courses at the graduate level that are pertinent to the assignment; prior school administrative experience.
Necessary and Special Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the operations of a public school system.
- Proven leadership skills with faculty and students; possesses high moral standards and integrity.
- Ability to working effectively with school personnel, students, parents, and members of the community.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to plan, organize, and facilitate the instructional programs; ability to oversee all aspects of instruction.
- Ability to resolve student conflicts with tact and professionalism; ability to manage crises.
- Sufficient mobility to perform hall and school ground monitoring activities.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership for the instructional program; provides staff leadership, development, and training; supervises and evaluates staff.

Fosters a positive school climate that promotes student learning; monitors and assesses student progress; ensures appropriate student conduct consistent with school standards and division policies.

Provides effective management of the physical plant, financial accounts, instructional materials, and equipment.

Resolves conflicts and manages crises; exhibits effective human relations and communication skills.

Develops positive school-community relations; interprets the school's instructional program to students, parents, and the community.

Develops and implements an educational operating plan for the school which includes contributions by the staff, parents, students, and community members.

Develops and meets personal and professional goals from an established list of possible target areas; develops and meets goals based on annual superintendent initiatives.

Provides leadership for the operation of the Individual Student Alternative Education Program; coordinates and supervises alternative educational programs.

Provides leadership for the operation of the Virtual High School.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Chief Academic Officer (CAO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
