Job Description

Title:   PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment, mechanical equipment, audio/visual and electrical equipment such as lubrication, filter replacement, battery replacement, and minor adjustments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with some experience working with HVAC equipment.
  • Knowledge of standard safety practices, tools, and terminology of the skilled trades of HVAC and electrical.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and some test equipment.
  • Ability to meet the public effectively.
  • Ability to effectively work in a crew and maintain good working relations with the crew and others.
  • Dependability with good judgment.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions.
  • Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, bending, working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and from ladders, scaffolds, etc.
  • Must have current Virginia driver’s license.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Perform regular inspections of HVAC equipment, machinery, and electrical fixtures in the school system.
  • Perform minor repairs on audio/visual equipment.
  • Lubricate all motors, bearings, pumps, and air compressors as necessary or at intervals determined by supervisor.
  • Inspect all belt driven equipment for wear and condition and replace and/or adjust as needed.
  • Report any obvious problems and strange noises to supervisor.
  • Replace air filters as part of a regular schedule.
  • Maintain records of work accomplished.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Manager of Building Maintenance.
Reports to:
Manager of Building Maintenance
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
