Title: TEACHER - ENGLISH LEARNER PROGRAM COACH

Primary Function:
The English Learner (EL) instructional coach position works with the Title III/EL Coordinator to support the objectives of the English Learner program and Title III grant. Position develops and implements instruction to provide an effective EL program for K-12 teachers and students. Position is responsible for supporting the professional growth and development of teachers to facilitate learning and independent application of research-based EL instructional practices, which align with the ELD Standards. Position provides job-embedded support to ESL and classroom teachers through the division’s coaching model to include planning, modeling, co-teaching, conducting classroom visits, analyzing data, and offering actionable support within and/or across selected schools. Position plans and conducts professional development based on assessed division and/or teacher needs. Position works in collaboration with the curriculum department to coordinate professional growth and development of teachers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must possess a Bachelor’s degree and be eligible for an ESL Virginia teaching license.
- Completed a minimum of three years of exemplary ESL teaching experience in grades K-12.
- Experience leading high-quality professional development.
- Coaching, mentorship or leadership experience preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors.
- Demonstrate knowledge of EL software used for EL student instructional plans.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Comply with school and school board policies and regulations
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of ELD Standards
- Demonstrate exemplary EL instruction using EL instructional strategies and techniques
- Work cooperatively with all staff
- Relate positively to parents and other community representatives
- Function as a member of school teams and meetings as appropriate to role (i.e. EL student plan meetings)
- Conduct staff development for needs of the English Learner program
- Recommend purchases for EL instructional and family engagement materials
- Perform other duties as assigned by Title III/EL Coordinator
Performance Responsibilities:
- Support Title III/EL Coordinator in implementation of Title III grant objectives
- Support staff in efforts to improve student achievement of English learners
- Assist in planning and implementation of division and school EL family engagement activities
- Develop and implement high quality professional development to classroom teachers and EL staff
- Model effective instructional techniques and strategies that engage English learners
- Support and train teachers with the use of EL software
- Recommend purchases for EL instructional materials and family event supplies
- Provide accurate EL updates and information in EL department meetings
- Attend EL conferences and share relevant material with teachers
- Create instructional materials to help teachers bridge gaps within content and classroom
- Support and mentor new ESL teacher of expectations related to the English Learner program
- Provide training and assist schools with WIDA/ACCESS testing
- Coach teachers with instructional design and delivery and provide support through nonevaluative feedback, model teaching, and mentoring
- Help ESL teachers develop service delivery schedules that best serve English learners
- Assist in developing family engagement newsletters
- Accept responsibilities outside the school day as they relate to the grant and program initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Reports to:
Title III/EL Coordinator
Terms of Employment:
200 days, based on licensed employee salary schedule plus per diem rate for additional days as outlined in the YCSD Pay Plan
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulation on evaluation of licensed personnel.
