Title: MANAGER OF APPLICATIONS SUPPORT

Primary Function:
Performssupervisory and professional work involving the planning, coordinating, supporting and operating of software applications, computers and peripheral equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and three to five years of experience in computer and/or database management, analysis, and programming; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Necessary and Special Qualifications:
- Two years of experience working with a client-server database server engine such as Unidata and/or SQL Server in a client-server networked environment.
- Two years of experience working with a Fourth Generation Language (4GL) such as System Builder+ (SB+) in a client-server networked environment.
- Experience with report writing tools such as Crystal Reports in a client-server networked environment.
- Experience with at least one high level programming language such as Visual Basic, C++, etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the installation and routine maintenance procedures for computer and related equipment.

Knowledge of data processing principles in applications, programming, and system development.

Visual acuity and perception necessary for operating a motor vehicle and working with computer hardware and software.

Experience supervising daily work activities of subordinates.

Experience using productivity tools such as Access, dBase, FoxPro, etc. to develop relational database.

Experience in dealing directly with customers.

Ability to organize and schedule data processing operations and to oversee the associated operations.

Ability to operate independently and without constant supervision, as well as in a team environment.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional, working relationships with IS administration, employees, and other departments.

Ability to prepare technical reports, manuals, and documentation.

Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.

Ability to stay abreast of and analyze advancements and trends in the data processing field and to make recommendations for changes and improvements to systems and/or programs when advisable.

Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, and reach when working with personal computer equipment, peripherals, and associated electronic network equipment and to lift forty (40) pounds.

Ability to grasp, hold, and manipulate tools and computer parts.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Oversees computer system operations and supervises associated operations staff.

nsures adequate security and protection of datas.

Performs system checks to insure system is functioning properly and maximizes performance of various computer systems.

Installs and maintains application software for specialized customer applications.

Provides reports and data exchanges as necessary.

Serves as the primary support contact for certain applications acquired for specialized purposes when used by other division employees. Responds to all problems with said products, i.e., be the in-house expert.

Supervises daily work activities of other positions as assigned.

Meets with customers to discuss needs and requirements. Prepares formal specifications which state needs, proposes solutions, and describes steps necessary for implementation.

Writes detailed specifications for software upgrades and modifications.

Coordinates software upgrades, modifications and corrections with software developers.

Evaluates commercially available products, determines value of products to the division, and the cost effectiveness of implementing packaged products as solutions to given problems.

Provides training on specialized packages. Performs routine maintenance procedures and advises personnel using systems on same.

Determines nature of reported problems and initiates corrective action or refers

problems to Microcomputer Maintenance staff and/or Network Administrator.

Effectively communicates user errors and explains steps to avoid similar problems in the future.

Assists in planning for both new and replacement equipment and software purchases.

Suggests ways to improve service or reduce costs relating to using computers in the school division.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Director of Information Services
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
