On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) publicly released accreditation and accountability information for public school divisions under its new School Performance and Support Framework (SPSF). Staff provided a detailed presentation on the new framework and individual school ratings during the December School Board Work Session.
We are pleased to share all York County School Division schools remain fully accredited for the 2025-26 school year. Additionally, all 19 schools earned ratings of Distinguished or On Track, making YCSD the only school division in Region II to have all schools meeting or exceeding expectations.

With winter weather having already impacted our area, we want to remind families and staff about how we make decisions and encourage everyone to have a plan ready for future closings.
When forecasts predict hazardous weather, our priority is safety. As the county stretches about 27 miles, from areas north of Williamsburg to our southern points bordering Hampton, conditions can vary greatly from one end to the other. In addition, many of our staff live in surrounding communities and must travel into the county. These travel conditions are an important part of our decision-making process, as ensuring safe commutes for students and staff is essential to safely operating our schools. We also strive to make the call the evening before whenever possible, so families and staff have time to plan.
For more details on our process and information about implementing Remote Learning in the event of future closings, please visit the division website.

Mark your calendars with key dates such as the first day of school, winter break, and spring break. It’s important to note, the first day of school for the 2026-27 school year will be Monday, August 24, 2026, completing the division’s shift to beginning the school year two weeks prior to Labor Day.
Sodexo, our food service management company, invites all students, families and staff to share their thoughts about experiences with our school breakfast and lunch programs. Please take a few moments to complete a brief survey to help Sodexo identify successes and areas of opportunity for improvement.
Each month, YCSD shares information from local organizations regarding educational/enrichment activities, events and opportunities for students and families. While the division neither sponsors nor endorses the announcements, they are offered as a community service for our families. Community announcements can also be found on the division website and each school's website.
