Summer Academy & Enrichment Opportunities

Summer Academy staff will be reaching out to families currently registered for Summer Academy with information on start and end times, bus route times and express stop locations, and other important details.

In addition, YCSD is excited to offer multiple opportunities to further enrich student learning this summer through a series of in person and virtual sessions for elementary, middle, and high school students. These include elementary and middle school camps, Transition Tuesdays, Workforce Wednesdays, AP Bootcamp, SAT/PSAT course prep, and family engagement opportunities for our elementary, middle, and high school families. To learn more and register a student, please visit the Summer Academic Programs page on the division website.

2022-23 School Hours – York Zone

The School Board has approved a 5-minute adjustment to school start and end times for four schools (YHS, DES, SES, YES) in the York Zone. Staff recommended the adjustment after reviewing bus arrival times at each school. The new hours will extend the window between school start times to improve on-time arrivals in the mornings and afternoons. Yorktown Middle School hours will remain the same.

New School Hours

  • YHS: 7:15 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • DES, SES, YES: 9:00 a.m. – 3:40 p.m.

Elementary 1:1 Devices

Beginning in August, the school division will no longer support a 1:1 device initiative for students in preschool through grade 2. While 1:1 devices have been an integral part of the division’s response to instruction during the ongoing pandemic, this decision supports the developmental needs of our primary students, which includes learning to use a pencil, practicing penmanship, and learning to read with authentic texts. Students in these grade levels will continue to use technology for practice and more personalized learning experiences. Devices will be made available, as needed, in the event of school or classroom closures.
