2021-22 School Year Planning

Last night, the School Board of York County voted to make masks optional for all students and staff while inside YCSD buildings when school begins on August 30. Masks will still be required for students and staff while on school buses, in accordance with federal requirements.

The division will continue to implement other mitigation strategies to the greatest extent possible and provide the Board updates every two weeks. However, with all students attending school in-person five days a week, our ability to maintain physical distancing will be limited. Additionally, all students and staff should continue to conduct Daily Health Screenings before coming to school or work to help reduce potential exposure and the need for non-vaccinated individuals to quarantine for 10 days.

As our priority is to provide high quality instruction through in-person learning for all enrolled students, the division does not intend to provide synchronous virtual instruction during the school day. When quarantined, students will have access to Canvas and materials provided by their teachers.

Some families have inquired about options for full-time virtual learning for the 2021-22 school year. YCSD is currently only able to offer that opportunity through the state-operated Virtual Virginia (VVA) program. While the state closed the enrollment window for that program on July 15, eligible students can be placed on a wait list to be enrolled, if and when, space becomes available. Interested families can complete the full-time virtual application available on the YCSD website and submit it to their school counseling office for a determination of eligibility.

Finally, we want to thank our community for their continued support of our school division as we have navigated through this pandemic. We look forward to Monday, August 30, when we re-open our doors for all students.

1:1 Technology & YCSD-Issued Devices

YCSD will continue to implement a 1:1 Technology Program for the upcoming school year. Families will have the opportunity to request a division-issued device at the start of the school year or can elect to send a personal device to school with their child each day.

Any family that still has a YCSD-issued device from the 2020-21 school year or Summer Academy is asked to return that device for updating and maintenance as soon as possible. Devices can be returned to any YCSD school main office Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Transportation Forms

As a reminder, parents who plan to have their child(ren) ride the bus to or from school may need to complete a Transportation Request Form by midnight, Sunday, August 8, to ensure their child is placed on a bus route. The transportation request form is now available in Rycor. Families do not need to complete this form IF:

  • The student is new to the division for the 2021-22 school year
  • The student rode the bus last year and still resides at the same address
