Tabb Middle School Engineering Showcase

Posted on: Friday, January 27, 2017

Tabb Middle School (TMS) students enrolled in Terry Guthrie's Ready, Set, Go class participated in an engineering showcase last week. Over the course of six blocks, student teams acted as computer and environmental engineers who were charged to design and build a robotic device with moving parts, lights, and or sensors for the purpose of improving water quality. Teams had to describe a specific target problem with the Bay then explain how their device represented a solution. They used the last State of the Bay Report to understand the real issues in need of improvement. Guests were invited to the showcase to represent concerned citizens of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. They reviewed and evaluated prototype solutions and provided feedback on a rubric.

2016-17 Calendar Adjustment

Posted on: Tuesday, January 17, 2017

The York County School Division has made an adjustment to the 2016-17 calendar to address the school closings that took place this month. Monday, January 30, originally scheduled as a teacher workday, will now be a regular school day for all students. January 30 will be the first day of the second semester and will be an A day for secondary students. While the division was closed for three instructional days, only one make-up day will be scheduled. This adjustment was made after reviewing the past several school years, which were affected by inclement weather in late January, February and into March. When considering the options to make up days as we proceed through the school year, the division determined that a proactive approach would be most beneficial to our students.
