Bus Routes and Stops

Students who attend the York County School Division, live within the county and outside of walking zones are provided free transportation to and from school. The Transportation Department determines bus routes, bus and driver assignments, bus stops and pick-up/drop-off times.

New for 2017-18

The York County School Division implemented a new software program to manage school bus transportation beginning with the 2017-18 school year. The system allows families to find information regarding their children's bus routes and bus stops, if the students are eligible for bus transportation. Families of students with special transportation needs can access information here and will still be contacted directly by their bus drivers.

Many bus routes, bus stops and stop times have been adjusted based on this new software.

As a reminder, bus pick-up and drop-off times are approximate and can vary due to factors outside bus drivers' control, such as traffic and weather.

E-Link Bus Routes - The E-link system will open to families the week of August 21, 2017

Frequently Asked Questions

How did the division establish the new routes?
The software plots the addresses of all enrolled students who live within the county. Staff built the new routes for each school to achieve the following objectives:

  • Improve route efficiency
  • Ensure bus stop safety
  • Achieve equitable ridership distribution
  • Alleviate disparity in ride length - establishing the majority of routes to as close to 35 minutes as possible

Why were some bus stops removed?
Neighborhood stops were reviewed to create as many centralized stops as possible, while adhering also to the division policy regarding distance between stop locations. In most cases we try to use intersections which are easy to locate and where motorists are more alert to pedestrians. Consolidating stops also keeps the buses moving and reduces ride times.

What does “No route info available” mean?
Make sure you have entered the correct grade level, street address and zip code for the student. If you continue to receive this response, the address may be within a School Board designated walking zone for that grade. If you do not live in a walking zone and receive this message, please contact your student's school, or 757-898-0344.

Will the system include more than just daily routes?
E-link does not provide transportation schedules for activity buses, field trips, athletic events or buses transporting students between schools while participating in specific programs such as EXTEND, School of the Arts, JROTC, etc.

What if we moved over the summer?
If your address has changed, please contact your child’s school to correct the student’s information prior to the start of the school year to ensure your student is assigned to the correct bus.
