  • Do you feel that high-quality learning can take place in an online environment?
  • Do you have (or are you willing to obtain) access to a computer, the Internet and email at home?

How an Online Course Works:

Teachers and students meet daily using the asynchronous methods including announcements, lesson activities to navigate, explore, research, and use of multimedia to complete assignments, and discussions. Synchronous methods are the virtual chat/ whiteboard with the use of audio and video.

Teachers are available to students and parents daily using email, phone, discussion forums, or messaging. YCSD VHS requires teachers to respond to students or parents within 24 hours. On average teachers provide from 6-8 hours weekly with established office hours and communication with students.

Student progress is monitored through submission of assignments, participation in discussions, completion of assessments, and activity reports. Students are authenticated using a secure account monitored by the teacher, and anti-plagiarism tools are used to verify student work.
