Title: LEAD SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST

Primary Function:
Provide leadership for the school psychologist, contracted school psychologists, and school psychologist interns. Provide psychological services to students with disabilities in the York County School Division and to children of residents of York County in other institutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Psychology from an approved college
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the acceptable knowledge, abilities and skills, as evidenced in the following performance abilities;
- Virginia teaching license with a school psychologist endorsement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in the comprehensive roles and responsibilities of a school psychologist including psychological assessment and interpretation relevant to the educational setting, counseling, crisis management, consultation, and special education procedures.
- Understand service delivery models at the school-based and division-wide levels.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and management skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with children, parents, school division personnel, and other members of the community.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned to an itinerant position.
- Possesses sufficient strength, agility, dexterity, and mobility to carry out all performance requirement.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and leadership as to the ways in which York County School Division school psychologists can best support community, division-wide, departmental, school-based, and student-centered goals; identifies barriers to delivering that support and proposes strategies to address those barriers.
- Assist with school coverage when vacancies are present, school psychologist is absent and/or workloads require additional support.
- Serve as a liaison between the director of student services and the school psychologists.
- Coordinate with the director of student services to arrange support for schools during crises.
- Attend Student Services meetings and relay information to school psychologist.
- Provide leadership to school psychologist through facilitating regular professional learning communities (PLC) meetings and individualized coaching and support as needed.
- Monitor workload of the comprehensive services of school psychologists from school to school to recommend staffing decisions to the director and prioritize school psychologists’ job duties.
- Manage, maintain, and order all materials, including those on web-based platforms, needed for the delivery of school psychological services.
- Consider, coordinate, and implement as appropriate the use of technologies to improve service delivery.
- Monitor percent of referrals and evaluations from sites to align with compliance and balanced caseloads
- Coordinate and provide psychological services to students during the summer months, including Extended School Year services, compensatory services, evaluations, and participation in associated meetings.
- Serve as a member of the special education committees, various Student Services committees and mental health and social emotional learning teams.
- Select and administer tests to students referred for consideration for special education services or for triennial assessment; Interpret test results to parents and school division personnel; consult with school division personnel, agency personnel, and parents on psychological matters involving students
- Provide counseling services to identified students.
- Maintains accurate, complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
- Participate and deliver ongoing professional development.
- Collaborate with Human Resources for recruitment.
- Screen, schedule, and participate in the interview process for school psychologists.
- Attend Medicaid Annual Conference and additional VDOE conferences as needed.
- Collaborate with Medicaid vendor to ensure compliance and consistent billing.
- Complete annual observations and evaluations for school psychologists.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the director of student services and/or school administration.
Reports to:
Director of Student Services
Terms of Employment:
12 months per year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulation on evaluation of licensed personnel.
