Title:   HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Assume responsibility for all elements in the development, leadership, and operation of the high school (Grades 9-12) and support the priorities of the strategic plan. Lead by establishing a culture for continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a postgraduate professional license in school administration and shall have completed those courses at the graduate level that are pertinent to the assignment
  • Have at least 3 years of effective school administrative experience
  • Have demonstrated professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel, students, parents, and members of the community
  • Possess knowledge and effective skills in curriculum development, instructional practices, and interpretation of test data
  • Possess high moral standards and integrity
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership for the instructional program
  • Establish a professional learning culture through a solid foundation of shared mission, vision, values, and goals
  • Foster a positive school climate that promotes student learning and the priorities of the strategic plan
  • Monitor and assess student progress
  • Ensure appropriate student conduct consistent with school standards and division policies
  • Provide staff leadership, development, and training
  • Supervise and evaluate staff
  • Provide effective management of the physical plant, financial accounts, instructional materials, and equipment
  • Resolve conflicts and manage crises
  • Exhibit effective human relations and communication skills
  • Develop positive school-community relations
  • Interpret the school's instructional program to parents and the community
  • Develop and implement an annual operating plan for the school which includes contributions by the staff, parents, students, and community members
  • Develop and meet personal and professional goals from an established list of possible target areas
  • Develop and meet goals based on annual superintendent initiatives
  • Assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of curriculum
  • Attend special events held to recognize student achievement; attend school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

Reports to:
Chief Academic Officer (CAO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), Director of School Leadership
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel
