Title: HEALTH SERVICES PROVIDER (R.N.)

Primary Function:
Perform professional health services duties required in the school setting
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
- Licensed registered nurse
- Certification in CPR
- Demonstrate a willingness to work with all students
- Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity and oral and written communication skills required to perform all performance responsibilities.
- Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records
- Ability to prepare required written reports
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
- Follow Nurse Practice Acts of Virginia
- Possess high moral standards and integrity
- Possess valid Virginia driver’s license
Performance Responsibilities:
- Serve as health consultant to pupils, parents/guardians, teachers, and other school personnel in reference to students’ health, safety and well-being at school
- Provide health education materials and information to students, staff, and parents/guardians
- Update annual physical examination of students' vision, hearing, blood pressure, and vaccinations, per Virginia State guidelines.
- Prepares defect notices and follow-up correction
- Participate in epidemiological investigations and other studies as applied to schools
- Provide direct nursing care to students and staff such as first-aid services, administering medication, emergency health care, and nursing care as prescribed by a medical provider; and in some cases accompany the child to the hospital or home
- Supervise/observe students during administration of medication during school hours
- Discuss individual physical problems with pupils, parents, and teachers
- Serve as a resource person for the classroom on health care topics
- Comply with FERPA/HIPAA laws and regulations
- Ensure that OSHA standards concerning contact with, and possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious body materials within the school or employment setting are met
- Maintain daily log of student visits to the clinic
- Attend staff meetings and conferences as requested by their building administration
- Participate in staff development as requested
- Maintain up-to-date equipment and an adequately supplied clinic; requisition supplies and equipment as needed
- Follow procedures for suspected child abuse and neglect
- Supervise Health Services Paraprofessional as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by building administrator

Terms of Employment:
190 days a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
