Title:   HEALTH SERVICES PARAPROFESSIONAL

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Perform para-professional health services duties required in the school setting

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification in Basic First Aid and CPR
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work with all students
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity and oral and written communication skills required to perform all performance responsibilities.
  • Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned to an itinerant position.
  • Ability to prepare required written reports.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Possess high moral standards and integrity
  • Possess valid Virginia drivers license
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Update and record findings of annual physical examination of students' weight, height, vision, hearing, throat, skin, teeth and vaccinations
  • Prepare defect notices and follow-up for correction
  • Make arrangements and appointments for medical and dental care of indigent students as appropriate
  • Upon request, make appointments for physical examinations for students undergoing evaluation for special education and provide transportation when necessary
  • Provide first-aid services and in some cases accompany the child to the hospital or home
  • Visit homes when necessary under the direction of the Health Services Provider
  • Serve as a resource person for the classroom on health care topics
  • Assist in making informal inspections of schools for health hazards and recommend corrective measures
  • Maintain and update health records of all students
  • Attend staff meetings and conferences
  • Maintain current health records of faculty
  • Supervise students on medication during school hours
  • Maintain up-to-date equipped and supplied clinic under direction of supervising Health Services Provider
  • Maintain daily log of student visits to the clinic
  • Participate in staff development at the building and school division levels
  • Work closely with Health Services Provider to whom assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned by building administrator
Reports to:
Building Administrator
Terms of Employment:
190 days a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
