Job Description
Title: SCHOOL COUNSELING DIRECTOR
Primary Function:
Responsible for supervision of the school counseling program in the school setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience as a High School or Middle School Counselor; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the acceptable knowledge, abilities and skills, as evidenced in the following performance responsibilities.
- Professional license with endorsement in school counseling at the appropriate level (elementary, middle, or high school) and a Master's Degree in Education.
- Considerable knowledge of school counseling operations and issues.
- Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records.
- Ability to prepare required written reports.
- Ability to organize/manage and to make sound decisions.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Perform all tasks assigned to all school counselors (see School Counselor Job Description)
- Coordinates, manages, and evaluates the school counseling program to ensure it is aligned with the American School Counselor Association mindsets and behaviors for student success
- Serves as the liaison between the building principal and the counseling staff
- Provides information to the principal regarding the counseling program
- Coordinates and supervises the implementation of the counseling program, including academic, career, and personal/social counseling, testing, scheduling, and post-secondary education
- Collaborates with administration and the Assessment and Compliance Coordinator of tracking student SOL results and verified credits
- Coordinates career and academic activities and family engagement events
- Oversees and maintains records of school counseling services and student scholastic records
- Identifies needs for in-service training of the counseling staff, supplies and materials to further enhance the school counseling program
- Supervises and mentors School Counselors’ professional work and orients new counseling personnel
- Assists the Principal in developing the master schedule
- Determines School Counselor assignments
- Serves as a resource to teachers and staff to assist in meeting the needs of student’s academic, social and emotional needs
- Maintains a counseling load ranging from 0 to 300
- Performs other duties as assigned
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal/typewriter; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

Reports to: School Principal and Coordinator of School Counseling
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
