Title: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Primary Function:
Assists the principal in assuming responsibility for all elements of the management of the elementary school (Grades K-5), instructional programs, teacher and student performance, promoting public relations within the community, and making sure that the learning environment is healthy and productive.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Holds a postgraduate professional license in school administration and shall have completed those courses at the graduate level that are pertinent to the assignment; and have 3 successful years of teaching experience.

- Knowledge of the operations of a public school system.
- Proven leadership skills with faculty and students; possess high moral standards and integrity.
- Exhibits effective human relations and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with school personnel, students, parents, and members of the community.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to plan, organize, and facilitate the instructional programs; ability to assist in all aspects of instruction.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assists in providing leadership for the instructional program.
- Assists in fostering a positive school climate that promotes student learning.
- Assists in monitoring and assessing student progress; assists in resolving conflicts and managing crises.
- Assists in ensuring appropriate student conduct consistent with school standards and division policies.
- Assists in supervising and evaluating staff and providing staff leadership, staff development, and training.
- Assists in providing effective management of the physical plant, financial accounts, instructional materials, and equipment.
- Assists in interpreting the school's instructional program to parents and the community; assists in developing positive school-community relations.
- Assists in developing and implementing an educational operating plan for the school which includes contributions by the staff, parents, students, and community members.
- Develops and meets personal and professional goals.
- Assists in developing and meeting goals based on the Strategic Plan and annual superintendent initiatives.
- Assists in collecting and reviewing data regarding the school’s performance and in planning with the principal for continued improvement.
- Assists in maintaining an effective educational program consistent with State and Federal guidelines and the philosophy, policies, and goals of the School Board.
- Assists in the overall administration of the school; interpret and enforce school division policies and regulations.
- Assists in monitoring compliance with federal, state, and local mandates and guidelines related to local and state testing programs and the local special education program.
- Assists in planning and implementing a professional development/growth program for teachers and staff.
- Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment, conduct inventories, maintain records, and check on receipts for such material.
- Assist in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other school support services; help conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
- Assist in the reporting and monitoring of student attendance.
- Maintain a variety of files; prepare periodic and special reports as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

Elementary School Principal
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board pay plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
