DATA TECHNICIAN
Primary Function
Provides customer support for various software applications, produces ad hoc reports as required, and organizes various recurring electronic data transmissions and reports such as Fall Data Collection, Spring Data Collection, End-of-Year Data Collection, Federal Impact Aid Survey and Triennial Census.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two to three years experience using administrative desktop applications to solve business problems (Associates degree in Computer and/or Information Sciences or related technical field with emphasis in computer applications and software development preferred).
Necessary and Special Qualifications
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and insurability required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of micro-computers and related equipment.

General knowledge of the installation and routine maintenance procedures for micro-computer and related equipment.

An understanding of data accountability as it relates to security, restricted access, and audit trails.

Experienced managing large datasets for various business needs and manipulating those datasets for specific division, state and federal reporting requirements including experiencing maintaining the integrity for those datasets.

Experienced using productivity tools to develop relational database applications in a networked environment.

Experienced assessing requirements and implementing software and hardware solutions on micro-computers to include the ability to develop documentation and training and to conduct a training program for customer's staff.

Ability to research and understand a customer department's operations, assess computer needs, assist in developing methods and procedures for business systems, and implement limited applications.

Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional, working relationships with IS administration, employees, and other departments and experience in dealing directly with customers/end-users.

Ability to prepare technical reports, manuals, and documentation.

Ability to follow and develop complex oral and written instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to stay abreast of and analyze advancements and trends in the data processing field and make recommendations for changes and improvements to systems and/or programs when advisable.

Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, and reach when working with personal computer equipment, peripherals, and associated electronic network equipment and to lift forty (40) pounds unassisted.

Ability to grasp, hold, and manipulate tools and computer parts.

Visual acuity and perception required for operating a motor vehicle and working with computer hardware and software.
Performance Responsibilities
- Produces ad hoc reports as required from large datasets.

Organizes various recurring electronic data transmissions of large volumes of data for Fall Data Collection, Spring Data Collection, End-of-Year Data Collection, Federal Impact Aid Survey and Triennial Census. etc.

Uses skills and knowledge of various software products to meet demands and tasks of the division and numerous state and federal reporting obligations as required.

Provides information/data support functions as required.

Meets with customers to discuss needs and implement solutions using various software productivity tools.

Serves as the primary support contact for customer questions and problems with various software products, i.e., is the in-house expert.

Provides training on various software products and advises personnel about routine maintenance procedures.

Determines the nature of reported software problems and initiates corrective action or refers problems to appropriate Information Services personnel.

Effectively communicates user errors and explains steps to avoid similar problems in the future.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Manager of Applications Support
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
