Title: CUSTODIAL SERVICES AREA SUPERVISOR - ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL

Primary Function:
Assist in planning, coordinating, and supervising all aspects of custodial activities needed to provide custodial support in school buildings. Supervises head custodians at multiple school sites.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma and any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the acceptable knowledge, abilities, and skills, as evidenced in the following performance responsibilities.
- ISSA CMI Advance Custodial Technician Certification and or industry equivalent is desired.
Necessary and Special Qualifications:
- A valid Virginia operator's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship, professional attitude, and good communication skills with others.
- Knowledge of current supervision practices.
- Ability to plan and implement an efficient and economical custodial program.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
- Working knowledge of building cleaning methods.
- Familiar with the general operating principles of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and lighting systems in school buildings.
- Familiar with operating principles of firefighting equipment and security alarm system in school buildings.
- Ability to learn and operate various types of computer programs that will enhance and make more efficient the operation, record keeping, and statistical analysis of all aspects of the custodial/pest control services position.
- Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records.
- Must possess sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity required to perform job responsibilities.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Supervise and assist the head custodian and staff at each assigned school to properly carrying out job tasks and in counseling employees to facilitate an acceptable level conduct and performance.
- Review buildings assigned monthly to determine the level of cleanliness, ensure proper routine cleaning procedures and methods are being followed and evaluate the effectiveness of procedures and advise the Manager of Custodial Services on findings.
- Assist in developing and implementing programs to encourage improvement in efficiency and effectiveness in custodial services.
- Insure aggressive and progressive action is taken to complete open work orders and to resolve items identified during building reviews.
- Assist in identifying overall department training needs and in preparing and providing the necessary training.
- Maintain thorough records of employee training.
- Assist in providing new custodial employee orientation training.
- Serve on interview panel to identify replacement personnel to fill vacant requirements.
- Coordinates custodial staff work assignments.
- Performs performance evaluations on head custodians and other custodial personnel under their direct supervision.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Can climb a ladder and lift up to 60 pounds from the ground and 35 pounds above the head.
- Can stand for extended periods of time
- Can understand and follow written and verbal instruction
- Exhibits the manual dexterity and mental alertness needed to operate tool and/or other equipment
In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the School Division may suspend normal operations and/or cancel classes. If this occurs, all employees deemed essential must remain at or report to their work as soon as conditions reasonably permit. The designation of essential depends on an employee's duties as well as the circumstances for suspension of normal operations.

Manager of Custodial Service
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policies and administrative regulations on evaluation of administrative personnel.
