Title:   MANAGER OF PROJECTS AND LOGISTICS SUPPORT

Position Type: Exempt

Primary Function:

Manages major projects as well as the daily workload of the IT staff responsible for logistics, copy shop operations, security & access control systems, energy management systems including digital building automation systems, and video surveillance systems. Plans, organizes, and integrates cross-functional information technology projects that are significant in scope and impact; maintains information technology strategies by managing and/or coordinating staff and researches and implements strategic technology solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and four years’ experience as an IT professional with at least two years’ serving in a lead/supervisor position in an IT department, or any combination of education or training, and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Additionally, must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Must be detailed oriented.
Necessary and Special Qualifications:
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license and insurability required.
  • Visual acuity and perception required for operating a motor vehicle and working with computer hardware and software.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, and reach when working with electronic equipment, and to lift fifty (60) pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to grasp, hold, and manipulate tools and electronic parts.
  • Ability to climb a ladder while carrying twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience working with IT professionals and customers to express the needs, research and test products/solutions, specify a product/solution for implementation, coordinate hardware & software implementation, configure the system, implement new system/data policies, manage the organizational and work-flow changes, coordinate training with both customer and IT staff, conduct user-acceptance testing, coordinate cut-over, plan for go-live and hand-off for operational support.
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting computer hardware, peripherals and software applications.
  • Experience with the configuration and use of Microsoft’s operating systems and applications.
  • Experience working directly with customers who have varying amounts of technical expertise.
  • Experience working with a virtual environment.
  • Experience working with network technologies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with information technology management, employees, other departments and customers.
  • Ability to coordinate the work of multiple vendors on a project.
  • Ability to work within and support a highly cohesive team environment.
  • Ability to organize, plan and accomplish IT projects of varying scopes and durations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to compile information for preparation of technical reports, memorandum and documentation.
  • Ability to methodically follow and develop complex written and oral instructions.
  • Ability and ambition to remain knowledgeable of current advancements and trends within the information technology field in order to make recommendations for changes and improvements when advisable.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Manages a team responsible for various functions assigned to the IT department including but not limited to logistics/warehouse operations, copy shop operations, security & access control systems, energy management systems including digital building automation systems, and video surveillance systems.
  • Oversees Information Technology’s responsibilities to complete projects by coordinating resources and timetables with user departments and Information Technology.
  • Prepares documentation for handoff after project completion.
  • Coordinates IT staff by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages relationships with multiple vendors. Maintains organization’s effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering, and supporting strategic plans for implementing information technologies.
  • Directs technology research by studying organization goals, strategies, practices, and customer projects.
  • Verifies application results by conducting system audits of technologies implemented.
  • Preserves assets by implementing disaster recovery and back-up procedures and information security and control structures.
  • Recommends information technology strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating organization outcomes, identifying problems, evaluating trends, anticipating requirements.
  •  Accomplishes financial objectives by forecasting requirements, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective action.
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and benchmarking state-of-the-art practices.
  • Integrates information technologies into the organization for optimal effectiveness.
  • Understands current and future organizational goals and ongoing IT issues to ensure success.
  • Maintains a renewal and upgrade schedule for division’s software programs and hardware solutions.
  • Participates in orientation and training of new IT staff and ongoing training of existing staff.
  • Identifies potential issues with software and other systems prior to being made available to customers.
  • Analyzes new hardware or software requests and suggests alternative solutions as necessary.
  • Organizes, plans and accomplishes IT projects of varying scopes and durations.
  • Mentors IT staff, school division employees, and occasionally students when required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Director of Information Technology
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
