Job Description

Title:   BUSINESS ANALYST

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Serve as the in-house expert for complex applications developed by third parties for specialized purposes and provide customer support for the packages

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Computer Science, MIS, or Information Science and one year of related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the job requirements.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Install application software for specialized customer applications
  • Serve as the key user of applications. Provide reports as necessary.
  • Provide data exchanges between other applications as necessary.
  • Serve as the primary support contact between the School Division and software developers/vendors for applications being used by other division employees. Respond to all problems with said products, i.e., be the in-house expert.
  • Meet with customers to discuss needs and requirements. Prepare formal specifications which state needs, propose solutions, and describe steps necessary for implementation.
  • Evaluate commercially available software products to determine the value of software products to the division, the interaction with and impact on existing hardware and software systems and the resources required to implement and support the products, and make recommendations about the cost effectiveness of implementing such products as solutions to given problems.
  • Evaluate requested/proposed upgrades to existing software products to determine the value of the upgrade to the division, the impact on the existing databases of the version currently in use, the interaction with and impact on existing hardware and software systems, and the resources required to implement requested/proposed upgrades and make recommendation about the cost effectiveness of implementing upgrades of existing systems.
  • Provide training on specialized packages. Perform routine maintenance procedures and advise personnel using systems on same.
  • Determine nature of reported problems and initiate corrective action or refer problems to Computer Maintenance staff and/or Network Administration.
  • Effectively communicate user errors and explain steps to avoid similar problems in the future.
  • Assist in planning for both new and replacement equipment and software purchases.
  • Suggest ways to improve service or reduce costs relating to using computers in the school division.

Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
