Title: COORDINATOR OF HEALTH SERVICES

Primary Function:
To coordinate health care services for the York County School Division and to provide leadership consultation to the School Board, superintendent, administrators, school-based health services staff, teachers, school staff, students and parents in all matters pertaining to health services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certified Registered Nurse
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience working with children preferred
- At least 3 to 5 years of school nursing experience preferred
- Certification in CPR
- Follow Nurse Practice Acts of Virginia
- Possess valid Virginia driver’s license
- Oral and written communication skills required to perform all required duties and responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of best practices for student health
- Effective communication with school personnel, students, parents, and members of the community
- Proficient use of the computer, internet and multi-media applications
- Ability to prepare clear and concise written reports
- Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records
- Ability to speak in front of a group and lead professional development sessions
Performance Responsibilities:
- Develop and coordinate a health services program to meet the medical needs of all students
- Develop, review and revise written health policies for the school division as needed
- Comply with FERPA/HIPAA laws and regulations, respecting and following confidentiality guidelines for records and information
- Interpret state health regulations and develop appropriate programs to comply with the regulations
- Serve as a liaison among the professional medical community, Peninsula Health District, various departments and schools within the school division, administrators, teachers, staff, students, parents, and health services providers
- Provide leadership and guidance regarding health issues to the School Board, superintendent, administrators, school-based health services staff, teachers, staff, and parents.
- As needed, discuss individual student health needs with division and school staff, students and parents
- Provide health education materials and information as needed to staff, students, and parents
- Design and present professional development sessions as needed to division staff and school-based health services staff.
- Develop orientation sessions for school-based health services staff.
- Serve on the YCSD Health Advisory Board
- Update division documents annually regarding requirements for physicals and immunizations
- Oversee school-based updates for annual physical examination of students' vision, hearing, blood pressure, and vaccinations, per Virginia State guidelines.
- Participate in epidemiological investigations and other studies as applied to schools
- In emergency situations, provide direct nursing care at the school level to students and staff such as first-aid services, administering medication, emergency health care, and nursing care as prescribed by a medical provider
- Ensure that OSHA standards concerning contact with, and possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious body materials within schools or employment settings are met
- Assist with the preparation and management of the YCSD Health Services budget
- Maintain equipment information for school-based clinics and requisition supplies/equipment as needed.
- Follow procedures for suspected child abuse and neglect.
- Supervise school-based health services staff as needed.
- Assist with the interview process for school-based health services staff.
- Assist with the interview process for substitute nurses.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Director/Associate Director of Student Services
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Duties are performed in an office, school and clinical setting. Must have ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written with or without accommodation, to provide in-service training sessions and communicate with public. Visual acuity necessary to observe medical condition, patient conditions make diagnosis and/or effect appropriate first aid treatment. Manual dexterity to provide appropriate treatment when necessary. Occasional lifting may be required to lift or move a patient. Must be able to get to clinic sites.

Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certificated personnel.
