Title: COORDINATOR OF SCIENCE (K-12)

Primary Function:
Coordinates the translation of science curriculum goals and objectives into meaningful and effective learning experiences for each student in the Division.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience as a science teacher.
- Postgraduate Professional License in School Administration and completion of those courses at the graduate level that are pertinent to the assignment.
- Candidates working toward a Postgraduate Professional License in School Administration may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Considerable skill in the use of computer technology and data analysis in performance of tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, school personnel, and members of the community.
- Demonstrates positive school-community relations.
- Ability to prepare required written reports including clear and concise reporting.
- Ability to work effectively with school personnel, students, parents, and members of the community.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Functions as a coordinator of science curriculum, instruction, and assessment; coordinates the selection of instructional supplies, equipment, textbooks, and other resources.
- Plans and facilitates workshops and other professional development programs designed to optimize delivery of science instruction in the classroom.
- Recommends ways in which the science curriculum can be modified to meet the special learning needs of exceptional children.
- Engages in research related to science curriculum development and specific instructional programs; analyzes data to make informed instructional decisions.
- Leads the development of science curriculum projects and instructional publications; assists in the organization and implementation of curriculum-related meetings for staff and parents.
- Communicates the approved Division science curriculum to the professional staff and maintains documentation of approved instructional materials.
- Supports the Director of Elementary Instruction in working with principal and teacher committees; coordinates horizontally and vertically articulated grade level and department meetings.
- Supports the supervision of classroom instruction; models effective instructional strategies, and demonstrates appropriate use of instructional materials.
- Coordinates and manages specific academic, co-curricular, and grant-related programs.
- Evaluates instructional applicant files and interviews/assesses instructional applicants seeking employment.
- Participates in local, regional, and state organizations, conferences, and trainings; communicates all relevant information to stakeholders.
- Coordinates the annual YCSD Science and Engineering Fair.
- Collaborates with community organizations to provide science educational programming to schools.
- Collaborates with staff to ensure safe laboratory practices and procedures are used throughout the Division.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Reports to:
Director of Elementary Instruction
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of administrative personnel.
