LEAD LOGISTICS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN
Primary Function
Provides advanced technical logistics support and serves as the lead technician responsible for coordinating daily operations within the IT logistics function. Oversees storage, distribution, tagging, repair, and tracking of technology equipment while ensuring efficient warehouse operations and proactive communication with schools and department staff. Provides guidance, task direction, and operational coordination for Logistics Support Technicians and assists the Manager of Enterprise Systems and Logistics Operations in planning, process improvement, and project execution.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in computer science, electronics, or related technical field, or a technical study program from a trade school or previous employer (such as military); and three years technical experience diagnosing and resolving computer hardware and software problems and installing and maintaining personal computers and peripherals; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
- Prior experience in logistics, inventory management, or serving in a lead role preferred.
Necessary and Special Qualifications
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and insurability required.
- This position requires routine travel to and from multiple York County School Division locations as part of the regular duties and responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of electronics, computer repair and troubleshooting.
- Ability to manage warehouse space utilization, capacity, workflow, and inventory accuracy.
- Warehousing/logistics experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of operating system deployment methods and device imaging.
- Experience in maintenance of Windows and Apple devices and operating systems preferred.
- Experience managing and maintaining mobile devices desirable.
- Ability to identify trends and propose process improvements to prevent recurring issues.
- Considerable knowledge of current technologies required to support customer technical needs across systems supported by Information Technology.
- Knowledge of configuring and troubleshooting workstations in LAN/WAN and wireless environments, including profiles, email, internet browsers, firewall/content filtering, group policies, network printers, and mapped resources.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Windows, MS Office, and Office 365.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to lead and coordinate work activities of others, provide guidance, and ensure adherence to procedures.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong documentation, organizational, and data-tracking abilities.
- Visual acuity and perception required for operating a motor vehicle and working with computer hardware and software.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, and reach when working with electronic equipment, and to lift fifty (50) pounds unassisted.
- Ability to grasp, hold, and manipulate tools and electronic parts.
- Ability to climb a ladder while carrying twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.
Performance Responsibilities
- Provides daily work direction, task assignment, and operational guidance to Logistics Support Technicians.
- Coordinates workload distribution to ensure timely fulfillment of delivery, distribution, repair, and warehouse operations.
- Acts as primary point of contact for logistics coordination with schools, SBO, field technicians, and department staff.
- Supports the Manager of Enterprise Systems and Logistics Operations in planning and executing division wide logistics processes and projects.
- Manages and oversees the storage, organization, inventory tracking, and movement of equipment, supplies, and parts.
- Monitors inventory levels, stock rotation, supply cabinet replenishment, and warehouse space utilization.
- Maintains accurate logs and records of equipment, parts, incoming shipments, and outgoing deliveries.
- Ensures asset tagging accuracy and timely submission of asset data for system updates.
- Oversees warranty repair programs and monitors vendor performance.
- Performs out-of-warranty hardware repairs and bench diagnostics.
- Coordinates copier and printer repairs and manages associated service contracts.
- Ensures consistent processes for receiving, inspecting, tagging, storing, and distributing incoming equipment.
- Manages disposal processes for obsolete/broken equipment according to division guidelines.
- Coordinates recycling efforts and works with Central Purchasing for auctioning excess equipment.
- Ensures proper documentation and chain-of-custody procedures for surplus or retired assets.
- Plays a key role in planning and executing major technology initiatives including summer projects, device refresh cycles, and testing equipment setup (e.g., SOL testing).
- Coordinates delivery of supplies, devices, and materials to field technicians, schools, and administrative sites.
- Works closely with school staff to schedule deliveries, pickups, and project support activities.
- Acts as primary logistics liaison with vendors to address equipment repair needs, delivery schedules, and warranty processing.
- Works collaboratively with technicians, engineers, and other IT teams to support technology deployments and issue resolution.
- Assists in scheduling and coordinating IT interns’ activities.
- Maintains clean, safe, and efficient warehouse and workspace environments.
- Recommends improvements to logistics workflows, storage processes, asset tracking, and distribution systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Manager of Enterprise Systems and Logistics Operations
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
