Title: COORDINATOR OF MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS AND WORLD LANGUAGE

Primary Function:
The Coordinator of Multilingual Learners and World Language provides leadership and coordination for the division’s English as a Second Language (ESL) services and World Language programs. The position ensures alignment with federal, state, and local guidelines, manages related Title III grant, and supports high-quality curriculum, instruction, and professional development in language acquisition, biliteracy, and cultural competency.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in education or related field required.
- Valid Virginia Teaching License with endorsements in:
- K-12 Administration and Supervision
- English as a Second Language
- Background in ESL, world language, and/or language acquisition required.
- Minimum of five years teaching experience, including work with multilingual learners.
- Experience in program leadership, curriculum development, and professional learning facilitation.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to Title III, ESSA, Civil Rights, and Virginia Standards of Accreditation.
- Grant management and fiscal oversight experience preferred.
- Strong skills in coaching, mentorship, collaboration, and communication.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Deep knowledge of language acquisition, biliteracy development, and instructional strategies that promote comprehensible input and student engagement.
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate curriculum, instruction, and assessment for ESL and World Language programs.
- Proficiency with data analysis to evaluate student progress and program effectiveness.
- Experience with instructional technology, including virtual reality and language immersion tools.
- Ability to design and deliver professional learning aligned with adult learning theory.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills for working with staff, families, and community partners.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Administer and monitor the division’s English as a Second Language program.
- Lead implementation of division World Language programs and initiatives, including the Virginia Seal of Biliteracy.
- Oversee Title III grant activities, budgets, and compliance with federal and state requirements.
- Interpret policies and laws regarding ESL services and World Language instruction; ensure compliance with ESSA, Civil Rights, and state accreditation standards.
- Lead development, implementation, and revision of ESL and World Language curricula and assessments.
- Provide guidance in the selection of instructional resources, textbooks, and immersion technologies.
- Support administrators and teachers in using effective instructional methods for multilingual learners and world language students.
- Conduct classroom observations, provide feedback, and support principals with evaluation of instructional practices.
- Plan and deliver division-wide professional learning for teachers and staff on language instructional strategies, cultural competency, and compliance requirements.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to ESL and World Language staff.
- Coordinate training and support for families through various methods.
- Collaborate with higher education, community, and grant partners to expand language immersion and enrichment opportunities.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of reports and records.
- Supervise Title III-funded instructional coach and ESL Teachers.
- Prepare staffing projections and placement recommendations.
- Coordinate division-level family engagement initiatives to support multilingual learners and world language students.
- Represent the division in local, state, and national initiatives related to language learning and cultural competency.
- Maintain effective liaisons with professional organizations and other school divisions to remain current in best practices.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Grant funded through the 2026-27 academic year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
