Title:   LANGUAGE SPECIALIST (GRANT FUNDED)

Position Type: Exempt

Primary Function:

Responsible for providing leadership to support the implementation of the 2022 DoDEA World Language Grant Program. Serves as a specialist with language acquisition expertise to effect classroom instruction and world language enrichment experiences. Position is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and expanding the 2022 DoDEA World Language Grant Program goals and strategies in alignment with federal and local guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid Virginia Teaching License and shall have completed those courses at the graduate level that are pertinent to the assignment.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching in world language, English Learner, or other language acquisition specialties.
  • Administration endorsement preferred.
  • Experience with federal and/or local grant management preferred.
  • Coaching, mentorship, or leadership experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Possess working knowledge of computer and educational technology including virtual reality or other language immersion technologies.
  • Possess considerable knowledge of the principles and practices in language acquisition, biliteracy, and comprehensible input to increase student engagement and achievement.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Adult Learning Theory and its implications for training.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and facilitate professional development and enrichment program experiences.
  • Ability to analyze data and produce accurate and timely reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Establish effective professional working relationships with students, parents, staff, and grant partners.
  • Collaborate with higher-education and community partners to develop world language virtual reality learning experiences and enrichment opportunities.
  • Develop curricula to support the YCSD World Language Program.
  • Collaborate with division staff to plan, develop, and implement strategies and activities to support students’ attainment of the Virginia Seal of Biliteracy.
  • Utilize data to identify areas of growth and implement strategies to demonstrate improvement in student achievement.
  • Deliver high-quality professional development and coaching to support the goals of the DoDEA Grant Program.
  • Plan, develop, and implement high quality enrichment opportunities for students to support language exploration, immersion, and acquisition.
  • Develop and implement a variety of activities to support world language exploration for elementary and middle school students.
  • Continuously monitor the fidelity of implementation utilizing the planning and implementation tools as established by the external grant evaluator in compliance with DoDEA regulations.
  • Collaborate with division grant staff to ensure proper fiscal management and compliance with federal regulations and reporting.
  • Support administrative, programmatic, and fiscal grant activities.
  • Coordinate family engagement activities for military-connected families.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Grant funded through the 2026-27 academic year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
