Title: TRADESMAN - PLUMBER - ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL

Primary Function:
Perform, under limited supervision, skilled plumbing and repair involved in maintaining school structures and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Virginia Journeyman or Master Plumber license.
- Five years experience in the plumbing trade.
- Certified to work on gas fired boilers or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work alone or as a member of a crew in either a shop situation or at a work site.
- Extensive knowledge of standard practices, tools, and terminology of the skilled trade of plumbing.
- Knowledge and understanding of building codes, shop and machine safety, EPA and OSHA requirements as required by the trade.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
- Ability to meet the public effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Dependability with good judgment.
- Ability to work outside in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions.
- Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, bending, working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and from ladders, scaffolds, etc.
- Must have current Virginia Driver’s License.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Perform a full range of journeyman level plumbing tasks including fabrication, repair, maintenance of plumbing systems, and estimating material requirements
- Perform threading and pipe bending operations, placing and connecting air, natural or manufactured gas, sewage, and water fixtures and facilities such as hydrants, water mains, unit gas heaters, water closets, lavatories, showers, sinks, stoves, and air compression equipment.
- Operate a jet rotor truck and clear difficult sewage problems.
- Coordinate work load to assure work orders are completed in a safe and timely manner.
- Install and maintain complete commercial plumbing systems.
- Repair and install boilers and boiler controls (pneumatic and electronic).
- Inspect and test piping after completing repairs, alterations, or additions.
- Plan work in accordance with drawings, sketches, or blueprints and own knowledge of construction.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Building Maintenance.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Can climb a ladder and lift up to 60 pounds from the ground and 35 pounds above the head.
- Can stand for extended periods of time
- Can understand and follow written and verbal instruction
- Exhibits the manual dexterity and mental alertness needed to operate tool and/or other equipment
In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the School Division may suspend normal operations and/or cancel classes. If this occurs, all employees deemed essential must remain at or report to their work as soon as conditions reasonably permit. The designation of essential depends on an employee’s duties as well as the circumstances for suspension of normal operations.

Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
