Title:   TRADESMAN - CARPENTER

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Under limited supervision performs skilled carpentry and repairs and maintains school structures, furniture, and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Five years experience in the fields of lock smithing, carpentry, mechanical, or any combination of experience and training in related fields.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building codes, shop and machine safety, and OSHA requirements as required by the trade.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, tools, and terminology of the skilled trade of carpentry.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and drawings.
  • Ability to meet the public effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others.
  • Dependability with good judgment.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions.
  • Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and from ladders, scaffolds, etc.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Work alone or as a member of a crew in either a shop situation or at a work site.
  • Perform a full range of building mechanical and carpentry tasks including installation, repair, maintenance of locks, door closures, window and glass replacement, wood and metal repairs, furniture, etc., and estimating material requirements alone or as a member of a crew in either a shop situation or at work site.
  • Apply a full range of carpentry skills and techniques in repairing, constructing, remodeling, and maintaining a variety of wooden and metal structures.
  • Perform a variety of duties such as fabricate and install windows, doors, transoms, and ventilators; install locks, panic bars, recombinate lock cores, cut and stamp keys; lay and repair floor tiles.
  • Perform work in accordance with drawings, sketches, or blue prints and own knowledge of construction.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Building Maintenance.
Reports to:
Manager of Building Maintenance
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
