Title: TEACHER - FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

Primary Function:
Assume responsibility for the delivery of the instructional program for students with visual impairment
Minimum Qualifications:
- Hold a professional license with endorsement in teaching students with visual impairment

Masters Degree preferred

Possess high moral standards and integrity

Meets the selection criteria for a special education teacher (see attached)

Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records.

Ability to move about in room to monitor students and check work in classrooms with varied seating and desk organization patterns.

Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned to an itinerant position.

Ability to prepare required written reports.

Ability to monitor and ensure appropriate student behavior, including outdoor activity areas, gymnasiums, etc.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Design and implement instruction for students with visual impairment
-
Be a contributing member of school's transdisciplinary team
-
Act as a consultant for members of the school's staff
-
Be involved in the assessment and acquisition of assistive technology devices
-
Design and implement appropriate individualized assessment
-
Provide modification and adaptation of curricula
-
Provide translation, transcription, and instruction in Braille
-
Be involved in orientation and mobility training (Pre-cane travel/safety skills)

Function as a liaison and trainer for the VDVH Low Vision Clinic

Be an active participant in Child Study and Eligibility Committees as appropriate

Perform other duties as assigned by the building administrator and Director of Student Services
Reports to:
Building Administrator and Director of Student Services
Terms of Employment:
200 days a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
