Title: SERVICE TECHNICIAN II

Primary Function:
Performs skilled, journey level mechanical and technical diagnostic work in the repair and maintenance of School Division vehicles and equipment. Diagnoses malfunctions in automotive equipment; removing and replacing worn or broken parts, and replacing fluids; enters maintenance data into computerized system.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school supplemented by course work in automotive mechanics, and 3 to 5 years of experience as an automotive technician; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of a valid Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at hire or a CDL Learners Permit at hire and the proper endorsements within 30 business days after hire. Possession of Virginia State Inspection License. Possession of current ASE Certifications in at least two applicable areas. Certification for performing Air Conditioning services. Thorough knowledge of methods, practices, and processes of repairing and overhauling automobiles and light trucks Thorough knowledge of engine and chassis units. Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, and safety regulations of the automotive industry. Thorough knowledge of state inspection rules. Skill in using specialized, diagnostic test equipment. Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including ability to lift 50 pounds.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Diagnoses problems, performs preventative maintenance and major repairs to cars, light duty trucks, and buses; repairs problems relating to fuel injection, gas and diesel engines, computerized engine controls, manual and automatic transmissions, clutches, cooling, suspension, steering, brakes (hydraulic & air), tracks, hydraulics, and attachments.
- Diagnoses and make repairs to equipment in the field.
- Performs Virginia State Inspections.
- Enters maintenance data information into computerized system.
- Attends training sessions and classes and attends meetings.
- Performs maintenance and repairs to shop equipment; performs general shop maintenance and cleans shop; assists in identification and ordering of needed repair parts.
- Picks up and delivers vehicles for outside repair.
- Responds to after-hour calls.
- Repairs small engines (lawnmowers, weedeaters, chain saws, gas generators, etc.)
- Performs other duties as assigned by Manager of Vehicle Maintenance.

- Can climb a ladder and lift up to 60 pounds from the ground and 35 pounds above the head.
- Can stand for extended periods of time
- Can understand and follow written and verbal instruction
- Exhibits the manual dexterity and mental alertness needed to operate tool and/or other equipment
In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations, the School Division may suspend normal operations and/or cancel classes. If this occurs, all employees deemed essential must remain at or report to their work as soon as conditions reasonably permit. The designation of essential depends on an employee’s duties as well as the circumstances for suspension of normal operations.

Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations for non-licensed personnel.
