Title:   SECRETARY I

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:

Performs a variety of routine office procedures using typing, clerical and computer skills with adequate supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required and at least one year's related work experience preferred
  • Proficiency, in use of word processing software as exhibited by use of beginner level functions.
  • Initiative/ability to learn other microcomputer programs as required
  • Possesses sufficient keyboarding skills with which to produce accurate work in a time efficient manner.
  • Ability to learn standard document formats
  • Thorough knowledge of standard office practices and equipment
  • Exhibits use of correct English grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Professional attitude and good communication skills
  • Ability to deal with members of the general public in a pleasant and effective manner both on the telephone and in person
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Prepare from draft (diskette, dictaphone, handwritten) routine and complex documents in proper form
  • Become knowledgeable of School Board policies and administrative and clerical procedures which apply to School Board Office operations
  • Maintain confidentiality of reports, records, correspondence, and communications when required to handle such information
  • Handle telephone calls in courteous manner, taking accurate and complete messages or relay calls to appropriate person
  • Use microcomputer programs required to accomplish assigned work
  • Maintain files in manner that ensures easy access to information
  • Verify program expenditures using central office printout as a cross reference
  • Maintain a pleasant attitude, being tactful and courteous toward co-workers, students, parents and visitors
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Building Manager or Director
Reports to:
Manager of School Board Office Building or Director
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
