Title:   ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR STUDENT SERVICES

Position Type: Exempt

Primary Function:

To assist the Director of Student Services in the operation of schools, alternative education, special programs, professional development and the resolution of discipline matters. To assist the Director of Student Services in the implementation of school programs and services related to administration, student activities, and food services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a postgraduate professional certificate with an endorsement in Student Services.
  • Have at least 3 years of experience in administration with at least 2 years in a principalship.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Effective communication with students, parents, school personnel, and members of the community.
  • Proficient use of the computer, internet and multi-media applications.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports
  • Understanding of best practices for student discipline.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Assists with coordination of all programs assigned to the Director of Student Services.
  • Assists with the non-licensed professional development program.
  • Assists with revisions to and distribution of the Student Handbook and Conduct Code.
  • Assists in administering instructional programs for the improvement of the teaching / learning process.
  • Assists in the management of student discipline and alternative education programs.
  • Provide professional development on best practices for student discipline, food services, health services, military programs, and family engagement.
  • Assist school-based administrators in the review of discipline data.
  • Assess and evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of student disciplinary procedures.
  • Coordinates Administrative Hearings and School Board Hearings (Elementary).
  • Coordinates the development of Request For Proposals (process for food services, childcare, and vending).
  • Assists in achieving Board mandated goals and objectives.
  • Assists in coordinating programs for special populations.
  • Assists in the operation of all school programs.
  • Assists in the resolution of parent concerns.
  • Serves at the division liaison for community organizations.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of Orientation, Open House and Back-to-School Night activities.
  • Assists with the submission of the Virginia Student Behavior and Administrative Response Report (SBAR)
  • Coordinates division's volunteer program.
  • Oversees the operation of the Health Services Program in collaboration with the Coordinator of Health Services.
  • Oversees implementation of D.A.R.E. and Fire Safety educational programs
  • Coordinates division strategic plan objectives related to family engagement
  • Assists, as needed with responding to emergency situations as appropriate and monitors division communication tools as needed.
  • Confers with the school Board attorney as needed for assigned duties.
  • Oversees the division’s annual giving campaign for the United Way.
  • Serves as the division’s military liaison to local military bases.
  • Oversees implementation of the local school wellness policy, including coordination of the school health advisory committee.
  • Coaches and provides support to administrators on school operational matters.
  • Assists with the screening of administrative personnel.
  • Oversees approved of Restrictions on Release requests, and provides guidance for family custody issues.
  • Serves as the liaison for the before and after school child care program.
  • Assists with the supervision of the Community Outreach Coordinator.
  • Supervises the Manager of School Food Services.
  • Serves as the liaison between the division and the Food Services Management Company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment:
Twelve months a year. Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and regulations on evaluation of administrative personnel.
