Title: SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD
Position Type:
Non-Exempt
Primary Function:
Direct traffic and assist students across the street in a safe and orderly manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent

Ability to complete crossing guard training
-
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, including in bad weather

Sufficient strength, agility, dexterity, and oral and written communication skills required to perform all performance responsibilities.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Complete school crossing guard training provided by the School Division
-
Direct traffic in a safe and orderly manner
-
Assist students at crosswalks to assure their safety

Monitor students entering and leaving intersections/crosswalks

Monitor traffic in crosswalk zone and surrounding area

Report student/motorist safety infractions as directed

Work effectively with public and school officials on transport and safety matters

Act in a professional manner exhibiting a positive image in dealing with students, parents, and school division personnel

Attend workshops and safety meetings as directed.

Report personal absences to supervisor allowing sufficient time to secure a substitute

Perform other related duties as assigned by Bus Driver Lead, Manager of Transportation Services, and Principal of school(s) served.
Reports to:
Bus Driver - Lead. Each guard shall be directly responsible to the principal of the school(s) served on matters related to student discipline and patron relations.
Terms of Employment:
180 days per school year. Workshop/in-service as required.
Evaluation:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
